Default ‘Despite ban, LeT plotting attacks from Pak soil’

WASHINGTON: LeT, an "extremely capable" terror group with a sophisticated regional network, continues to plan its operations from within Pakistan, a US government report has said, warning that militant safe havens inside that country pose greatest threat to American national security.

"Despite international condemnation for its November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, LeT continues to plan regional operations from within Pakistan.
LeT is an extremely capable terrorist organisation with a sophisticated regional network,
" the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in its 51-page report.

"It (LeT) continues to view American interests as legitimate targets. While the government of Pakistan has banned LeT,
it needs to take further action against this group and its front organisations, which find safe haven within Pakistan," it said
    .

Despite increased efforts by Pakistani security forces, al-Qaida terrorists, Afghan militants, foreign insurgents and Pakistani militants continue to find safe haven in portions of Pakistan's
Federally administered Tribal Areas (FATA), NWFP or Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa province and Balochistan, it said.

In the report the GAO said al-Qaida and other groups such as the Haqqani network used the FATA to launch attacks in Afghanistan, plan operations worldwide, train, recruit and disseminate propaganda.

For me the lines "with a sophisticated regional network" suggest the imperative for publishing the article and it's regrettable, because it's clumsy - the point is taken - LeT is a regional threat, read international and therefore....

Great -- these propaganda pieces deter from the danger the LeT actually is by diverting attention from the danger to the clumsy propaganda

Pakistan doesn't hold sway over the LeT, it hasn't for quite some time. It supported it during the 90s, & then disassociated with the LeT after the WOT. The LeT is a threat to Pakistan as well.

Did they mention anything like, if they are being backed by GOP? Please take a look again,

a sophisticated regional network, continues to plan its operations from within Pakistan, a US government report has said,
They are talking about safe heavens and a N/W that is being operated by somewhere inside only.

Just banning any organisation is not enough. But nobody wants to accept this reality. Very sad for the Indian sub-continent. I hope Pakistan get rid of them as soon as possible.
