why so? citibank has analyst's whose job is to make projections into the future on good investment opportunities.

It is not a sure thing of course but the natural gas boom is a fact, and its only getting better so far.

It is certainly not the material of 'Dreamland' coming from citibank.

anymore than the concept of battlefield viable railguns and lasers coming from the DoD in anycase.

Projections are that in 2012 US may become nett exporter of petroleum products.
As the price of crude oil is rising, many of the oil fields which were technically challenging are becoming economically viable. Recently there was TIME magazine front page report in Extreme oil.

Some of the new sources oil are tight oil, shale oil, oil sands oil, Arctic oil, deep sea salt oil etc which can deliver 100's of billions of barrels of oil. These new sources of oil will be viable as long as the oil prices stay above $100 a barrel, but they are very unfriendly to the environment compared with the conventional sources of oil. Also, technological advancements is making it possible to tap into oil sources previously thought not possible. All this is bringing new sources of oil into the global market and making the world less dependent on middle-eastern oil. The middle-eastern oil wells will start drying up in next 2-3 decades, and its quite possible that the Arabs will go back to riding camels within next 4-5 decades.

I wasn't referring to the article (it's a bad link, btw), I was referring to how the United States will never become a war zone.

United States was the Saudi Arabia of the World Pre-WW2.

The Pearl Harbor Bombing was done because US stopped exporting petroleum and oil to Japan, US accounted like 80% of Japan's Petroleum Supplier.

    Agreed with that.

But the Primary Reason for War was the Energy Embargo placed on Japan.

    Link works for me.

Anyway the gist is that the US is becoming a net exporter of refined oils. In the future it is projected that North America will be a 'new Middle East' when it comes to oil exports.

Sometimes I think the conservatives and liberals are going to split the country though.

Looks like you took the thread title the wrong way, I did not in any way, shape, or form mean that the US would have a similar geopolitical situation to the Middle-East, only that the US and North America in general may become a critical oil exporting region of the world, strengthening the US' geopolitical position

and the reason for the embargo was because of Imperial Japan's invasion of China and the pacific in general
