Al-Shibl 1 and 2 is a Saudi utility vehicle arised from the need of offering better proection and combat capability for the Saudi Armed Forces. The HUMVEE was decided that it doesn't meet Saudi standards in terms of protection, combat range and combat ability so Saudi Military Industries commission begun working on an alternative to meet the newly set combat standards drawn by the Armed Forces.

This design has led to the design and ultimately production of Al-Shibl series of Combat Utility Vehicle (CUV) which offers improved protection of crews and more speed, range and off road capability than the American HUMVEE.

Al-Shibl series can be armed with internally controlled machine gun, or manned one per specification, it can also be equipped with a Fire source finder and magnetic mine detonator, it offers protection of up to 12.7mm fire.

Al-Shibl1 mainly a recon and fast logistics support vehicle has a 3 man crew and speed and power was emphesized in its design hence the staggering power to weight ratio of its engine that need 3 fan holes to cool.

Al-Shibl2 was designed for combat and COIN operations aswell as special teams troop carries it too is equipped with a powerful engine to give it huge power in off road mountain terrain capability not available in the American HUMVEE.

The Shibl2 proved its worth in the 2009 Sad'ah insurgency scoring the highest points and kills than the HUMVEE and surviving a land mine with the crew intact. Despite its movement was incapacitated it still were able to target and fire at enemy combatants according to the Barriyah magazine the Saudi Land Forces official magazine:

Saudi has a lot of Armored Vehicles, some of them are of similar size and for the same role, why??

Saudi Arabia should now focus on developing more and bigger things like TANKS and MRLS and other stuff rather than showing one thing again and again and should produce them in larger numbers because Saudi Arabia is a huge country by size so it need more troops and weapons to protect its borders
