Default Zia never Claimed He Proclaimed Independence : Sahara

‘Zia never claimed to be declarer of independence’

Saturday, 02 April 2011 Author / Source : STAFF REPORTER Dhaka, Apr 1: Citing an article written by BNP-founder Ziaur Rahman, which had been published in Weekly Bichitra in 1972, home minister Sahara Khatun, on Friday, said that Zia had never claimed himself to be the declarer of independence. "He, himself, had recognised Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the declarer of the country's independence," Sahara said. The home minister was addressing a discussion, organised by Muktijoddha Sanskritik Sangsahd, a pro-Awami League organisation of freedom-fighters, to mark the Independence Day, in the city.
"It's a mystery why BNP leaders try to claim Zia as the declarer of our independence,'' said Sahara, who is also a presidium member of Awami League.
Speaking on the occasion, Awami League joint-secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif urged BNP leaders to observe Independence Day on March 27, instead of March 26, if they want to make Ziaur Rahman as the declarer of the Independence.

He did not need to because he already did. AL can not turn the clock back and destroy voice of Zia. Zia is the father of modern Bangladesh whether AL agree or disagree.

Sometimes I wonder why these traitor AL people always try to defame Ziaur Rahman. Zia was the saviour of our country at least two times. Moreover, he was a War Hero in the 1965 Pak-India war. He was a company Commander leading 300-500 soldiers in the Khemkaran sector of Punjab during the 1965 war against India. Wikipedia says:

"Ziaur Rahman, commissioned military officer by career, attained the rank of Lieutenant General before retiring and then assuming the office of the presidency of Bangladesh. During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, Zia served in the Khemkaran sector in Punjab as the commander of a Pakistani company unit of 300–500 soldiers. The sector was the scene of the most intense battles between the rival armies. The Pakistani government awarded Zia's unit with the highest numbers of gallantry awards for heroic performances during the war. Ziaur Rahman himself won the distinguished and prestigious Hilal-e-Jurat medal, and his unit won 2 Sitara-e-Jurat medals and 9 Tamgha-e-Jurat medals from the Army for their brave roles in the 1965 War with India."

Note that this company had resisted the advance of half a division of Indian troops into Punjab, but in the process this company lost most of its Bengal Regiment troops of PA. This military officer of PA switched in favour of an independent Bangladesh and proclaimed its independence when no AL political leader was brave enough to do so. Now, Sahara like garbage comes out and speaks ill at ease about a brave Ziaur Rahman. By his only proclamation, he united all the forces who favoured independence.
