    Staff Correspondent

Bhutan has proposed using Lalmonirhat and Saidpur airports, BBC Bangla Service reported yesterday.

A Bhutanese delegation, which is in Dhaka now, will visit the Saidpur airport tomorrow.

The BBC Bangla Service talked to GM Quader, the tourism and civil aviation minister, about how Bhutan would like to use the Saidpur airport and how much Bangladesh would benefit from it.

Yes, we should help out Bhutan in its need for airports. Bhutanese airport is not suitable for landing because of heavy winds. Bhutan is most welcome. Now, probably a checking will be made about the runway and other facilities to know if these are suitable for use by jet planes on international flights.

I think, BBC correspondent has misunderstood the intention of Bangladesh. The main motive is certainly not profit, it is co-operation with another south Asian brother. We are not that Baniya minded. Then, of course, we would not like to be losing money while helping others.

BD population welcome Bhutan. But, I would like to ask a question to the posters. If India requests for the same facility in, say, Sylhet, would our population allow it to India? Sylhet airport can cover the entire NE of India, and Dhaka can do the same to Tripura and its east/south.

Another question. Is India behind the Bhutanese approach? A conspiracy theory can be that If BD complies with it, then India comes up with its own requests to match Bhutan. I think, that is also ok, but it has to demolish Farakka as a goodwill gesture.

More like Bangladesh wants Bhutan to use its airport.

Bangladesh and Bhutan will sign air services agreement this week to boost trade and tourism between the two South Asian nations, officials said Sunday. "The civil aviation authorities of the two countries will ink the accord on Wednesday," secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Atharul Islam told the FE.

The deal will pave the way for regular flights between Dhaka and Thimpu, he said, adding Bhutanese information and communication minister Lyonpo Nandalal Rai is now in the capital to sign the deal. "The air services agreement will spur trade and tourism between the two friendly nations. Bhutan is our trusted friend and the new deal will cement our ties," he said.

"Under the agreement, the Bhutanese national carrier Druk Air will have access to Bangladesh's small northern airports, aimed at wooing Bhutanese tourists and foreigners to historical sites in North Bengal. We will show them both the airports. Both have very good landing and flying facilities. Tourists travelling from Thimpu can land in the airports in less than 30 minutes air journey," the secretary said.

What is the use of taking it?
Extra permissions required from bhutan to india and india to bangladesh.
Why not have talks with India... India can provide naval support also. Already Nepal is using Indian Naval transportation.

Good. Keep talking to yourself, make your own puzzles and solve them, make your own conspiracies and believe them.

Depends on which port, though I have doubt on northern ports because
the southern ones are rather active.

I am sure BD people wouldn't mind at all. The Paro Airport landing and take-offs are quite an experience.

A part of a hill actually causes most of the problem in Paro. They can easily take care of it. It will be basically acquiring those land and blow the hill side away. Lot cheaper than going to BD for flying.

Wonder where RAW/Mossad fits in this picture
