DHAKA: Former State Minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj alleged that his salary and allowance have been being sent to his bank account still after he had resigned 33 months earlier.
The ruling Awami League lawmaker had sent two separate letters to the cabinet secretary division in this regard on April 16 and 17 respectively.
A reliable source said personal assistance of Sohel Taj submitted the letters to the cabinet division Tuesday.
Source added that, in his letter, expressing surprise and rage, Sohel Taj asked that why his resignation letter was not accepted and salary is being sent to his bank account.
In his letter on April 16, he said, “I had resigned from my post on May 31 in 2009 and after that I never signed anywhere as state minister”
But, the cabinet sending my salary and allowance to my bank account still now from August 2009, it is unexpected and unacceptable, he said.
In another letter Sohel Taj said, “The cabinet has tarnished the image of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and mine by not issuing gazette notification.”
On May 31 in 2009, Sohel Taj stepped down as state minister for home affairs about five months into his appointment so that his dignity and principles could survive intact.
Sohel Taj, son of country’s first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed and the youngest member of the cabinet, tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office on June 1.
