The multi-billion-taka Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover (Gulistan-Jatrabari flyover) will be inaugurated on the Independence Day on March 26 next year. About 80 per cent of the construction work has been completed and it will take another nine months to complete the rest. The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) is likely to get 40 per cent more allocation in the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year (2012-13) for execution of development projects and maintenance of existing roads and highways.

Officials said the RHD is expected to get higher budgetary allocation mainly for the development and maintenance of roads in all district towns. Most roads and highways across the country are in a deplorable state due to lack of adequate allocation for their regular maintenance.

He said the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway expansion project is likely to get nearly 40 per cent more allocation in the upcoming fiscal than that of the outgoing fiscal.

The Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane project, with a cost of TK 24 billion, has been facing fund shortage during the first two years of its implementation period due to poor allocation. As a result, all three constraction companies of the project stopped their work in last April.
