Police, Rab enter Khaleda house premises

Police and Rab personnel on Saturday morning entered the premises of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's house in the Dhaka Cantonment.

BNP Standing Committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman confirmed it to The Daily Stan in the morning.

"I know they entered the residence premises, but I am not sure whether for eviction or not," said the BNP leader.

"What would be done should be done in a graceful way. So that no bad precedence is created," said Mahbubur Rahman.

It would not be right to oust the former prime minister forcibly since her appeal is pending for hearing at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on November 29.

BNP says of graceful way, but, then Begum Zia should have vacated the house gracefully and then go to the Supreme Court. Instead, she went for an ungraceful way by clinging to that Palace, which is not lawfully hers. A 9-acre land is a very large house for one person when it is not owned by her.

you have failed to understand sheikh hasina. Regardless of what khaleda does, this is a lost war for her. Its all about sustaining and showing she's not willing to back down. The ways shes being instigated and played around with by sheikh hasina, what else do you expect her to do? Sheikh hasina even sent her eid greeting card in this adress few days ago. You think as a good gesture?

    'Khaleda dragged out'
Dhaka, Nov 13 (bdnews24.com) — BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain has alleged that his party chief Khaleda Zia was forcibly dragged out of her cantonment house.

Having spoken to Khaleda after she reached her Gulshan office, Delwar said in a press briefing on Saturday that the BNP chief was made to leave her house against her wishes.

"This is not only illegal but an unprecedented incident. And we firmly protest against it," said Delwar.

The main opposition's number two also claimed that doors and windows of Khaleda Zia's 36-year old residence were being broken down. "We have just come to know of this."

Quoting Khaleda Zia he told the press briefing that she had only been given 10 minutes to clear out of her residence.

According to Delwar, the police and Rapid Action Battalion personnel broke through the door even before their 10 minute ultimatum was over.

"The law enforcers forcibly dragged her from the chair she was sitting in and boarded her on the car." he claimed.

Delwar also claimed Khaleda's possessions were kept in the house.

"The chief justice in the morning assured our lawyers that the government will not evict Khaleda from the house, but it did, and that too by force," he said.

He termed the eviction 'aggressive' and an instance of 'terrorism of the state'.

He mentioned the release of Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, detained for 15 years in the last 21 years by the military junta, and said, "The government cannot claim themselves democratic after such activities."

The BNP leader also urged for making the country-wide hartal on Sunday successful and threatened to stage tougher demonstrations.

Around 3:30pm, Khaleda, surrounded by law enforcers, reached her Gulshan office after being evicted from the cantonment house.

BNP calls day-long strike on Sunday

Dhaka, Nov 13 (bdnews24.com)—Main opposition party BNP has called for a countrywide dawn-to-dusk general strike for Sunday protesting the eviction of its chief Khaleda Zia from her cantonment residence.

BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain announced the programme during a briefing at the party headquarters following the joint party meeting on Saturday noon.

Khaleda Zia was evicted from her house on Shaheed Mainul Road, which was leased out to her during the regime of deposed military dictator H M Ershad. This house in Dhaka Cantonment was formerly the official residence of the deputy chief of army staff, a position once held by Ziaur Rahman.

"The government has undemocratically cordoned off the opposition chief's residence with RAB and police personnel. We have received news that the evictors rapped on her door and asked her to leave the residence within 10 minutes."

"We have called for a day-long strike on Sunday to protest such misdemeanour. I am urging party leaders and activists to peacefully carry out the programme," he said.

Delwar warned tougher demonstrations in future if their peaceful programme for Sunday is disrupted by law enforcers.

The briefing was held at the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan. Following the briefing, party activists tried to bring out a procession in front of the office but were dispersed by the police.

Law enforcers detained around 50 activists during the clash and were taken away on a police van.

In the press briefing, Delwar alleged that leaders and activists of the opposition around the country protested the eviction move. However, the police attacked these demos. "One person has been shot in such an attack and is in a critical condition."

BNP standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and other senior leaders were present at the briefing.

Around noon, activists of Sramik Dal brought out a procession in front of the party headquarters. The police attacked the procession and dispersed demonstrators. The demonstrators started chanting slogans protesting the eviction and threw brickbats at the police. A number of vehicles were vandalised at that time.

The police detained four activists from the scene.

    'They took away my memories'

Dhaka, Nov 13 (bdnews24.com) — BNP chief Khaleda Zia broke down once again as she lamented that she has been torn away from her memories.

"They have uprooted me from my age-old memories," said Khaleda referring to the eviction from her residence of three decades and a half from where she saw her husband, the military strongman Ziaur Rahman's rise and fall.

She claimed that the defence personnel had insulted her when she was driven out of her cantonment house.

In a press conference at her political office on Saturday evening, the two-time prime minister claimed she was not given enough time to prepare.

BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, before her speech, had alleged that she was dragged out of the house although the army said Khaleda Zia was leaving the house of her own volition.

You may have missed it. Reality is that BNP went supreme court and appeal against the high court verdict couple days ago but Bastards AL didn't care about the outcome of supreme court decision. What has been done by Al is pure state terrorism against opposition leader and wife of late president and General Zia.

Not just a house but this is the house where greatest leader and visionary late president Zia spent his time. He was the man saved us from Indian dominance. He was mujahed who gave his life for this ungrateful nation.

This is a sign of defeat of Nationalist forces. It's time all nationalist forces joint hand against the kaffir munafiq Al and oust them from power otherwise nationalist will extinct like dinosaur.
