China thwarted action against JuD: Clinton

WASHINGTON: As recent as last December, months after the Obama administration pledged a massive $7.5 billion aid to Pakistan, a secret cable from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton voiced serious concern over Pakistan’s support for terror groups and its Inter- Services Intelligence’s continuing nexus with these outfits.

“Pakistan’s intermittent support to terrorist groups and militant organisations threaten to undermine regional security and endanger US national security objectives in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” notes the December 30, 2009 cable, released by WikiLeaks on Sunday.

The cable went on to reveal that Pakistan sought to block a UN Security Council resolution last year that sought to designate JuD, the so-called charity wing of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and their founder Hafiz Saeed. “China, acting at the behest of Pakistan, did place a technical hold on the designation of three Pakistan-based or affiliated terrorists nominated by India, although China did not prevent the most recent Pakistan-related US designation nomination in June (2009),” reveals the cable.

Clinton’s cable noted that “these extremist organisations continue to find refuge in Pakistan and exploit Pakistan’s extensive network of charities, NGOs, and madrassas.”

We put a "hold" on the designation of a charity group as a "terrorist organization", at the behest of Pakistan? Hardly a major crime, although I don't know enough about JuD to say much more on the matter.

the issue is that china should have supported indian and american efforts towards JuD which actively helps in funding Let.

That is what I was doing, and what I have read is that JuD is a charity group that is "suspected" of being a front for LeT... but there is no hard evidence to show that.

Believe me though, I know the feeling when other countries support groups in your country that you feel to be separatists/terrorists etc. Not a good feeling.

You cannot find any real 'solid' proof on the internet, can you?

Whatever proof was there, was presented to the UN and on the basis of that proof, the UN banned this organisation.

Unless, of course, you believe that we Indians are powerful enough to arm twist the UN like the US does.

Instead of the wit, why don't you try to provide me with something solid. And since you've been so plain with me, I'll be plain with you too.

Considering the fact that India hosted the Tibetan government in exile immediately after they failed to overthrow Chinese rule during the Tibetan uprising, and considering the fact that India continues to host the Tibetan government in exile even to this day... doesn't make me care particularly much about whether this organization is named one thing or the other.

You're asking us to worry about some random charity (JuD)... when you're hosting the biggest Chinese separatist group on your soil.

i think its high time china realises india's concerns on terror. its incidents like these which harm china's reputation. if china wants to take its rightfull place as a responsible dominant power then sooner or later china has to step up and ask pakistan to do more towards stopping the spread of terror originating from pakistan.
