The exploration ship Binh Minh 2, whose cable was cut by a Chinese vessel last week, returned to Nha Trang Port yesterday after completing seismic surveys in Vietnam’s territorial waters.

Alexander Belov, the Russian captain of the ship, spoke to Tuoi Tre about the incident.

Have you ever seen anything like this case in which three Chinese vessels hindered the operations of the Binh Minh 2 and destroyed its equipment while it was operating in Vietnam’s territorial waters?

I have never seen such a case before and I hope [it] will be the last for me. The encounter was an experience for me. Normally, in such cases, marine surveillance ships will seek ways to communicate with us instead of destroying our equipment, which is an illegal action, since we were operating in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone.

What did you do to when the Chinese ships moved in?

I first tried to communicate with them and asked them to keep away from our equipment. I then heard them say that we had to leave the area since we had violated China’s sovereignty. We replied to them that the issue should be let to competent officials to resolve, but they continued to run after us. Finally, one of the three Chinese vessels cut our cables. We continued our voyage and called the company’s office for instructions on what we should do to recover the lost equipment to mitigate the damage.

As a person who has been at sea for long, what do you think about the seriousness of the incident?

This is a very serious incident, one in which they [the Chinese] were well aware of what they did. They came to destroy our equipment.

You have worked in many countries in the world. Have you ever witnessed such a violation of sovereignty?

Never. We were operating in Vietnam’s territorial waters when the Chinese ships came. That was very abnormal.

As a citizen of a sovereign country, what is your comment about the incident?

I think it is unacceptable. It is unbelievable to me that such a destruction has occurred. But I have actually witnessed it with my own eyes and I felt loathing for it.

What do you have to say about the Vietnamese side’s behavior?

I think that the case was handled rather well[by the Vietnamese side]. The crew and the ship are safe and there was not too much damage to our equipment.

Will you continue to work in Vietnam?

And why China still have long-standing feud it's because your Gov teach that. Almost of man who lived in WWII was far away now. Your Gov want rise your nationalism because your people haven't got enough freedom like others nation. It also make your nation is dangerous because the way your people think/
In fact, our government told us Japanese are friendly but the gov was evil. In China, there are also a lot of people like Japanese, but China is too big and acceped too many trouble misery from Japan.....
Although a lot of people hate Japan, they want to study from Japan to develop ourself
This is our difference, when China is insulted by other country, we notice ourself weak and don't hope other help us without some benefits. We want to save us by ourself.

The older people told us to remember this face if we are weak,we will be invaded.....
The another thing is I don't think a lot of Vietnamese don't hate Chinese. In this topic, many Vietnamese insult all the Chinese and you can see that.
As your friend said: you tried hard to made Vn poor and un educated during 80's, and now you see how low educated they are.

They don't know Chinese is nice, out going, who they hate must be China govrment, your gov make lots of Trouble to us, and to all ASEAN. your gov also dont care about poor Chinese people .

As the High-educated like you, you should understand that: VN still have lots of enemy after long war with USA, Cambodia, those guys can use fasle flag and make you hate VN.

If you have any Chinese friend in VN now, you will see they still in safe, Vnese still very friendly with them, no thing change between Chinese and VNese.
    wake-up-chinese! thanked this.

China need oil and it import 32% oil q'ty from oversea. With no oil supply within 5 months, China economic will be collapsed and there will be a civil war in China. That why China want to invade the Asean sea for the only reason of oil. ASEAN countries with USA,RUSSIA,JAPAN and other countries' support will rise up against China pirate action.

My teacher said that in the past, when Vietnam called Da Yue Empire and their king was "Lê Lợi" (I'm not sure), Ming empire invaded Da Yue and losed. In an operation, Qing's soldiers blood dye in red a rice paddy (Xương Giang) and a river (Bình Than). Then, many loser math flee into a forest. Da Yue's king released them and gave them hourse, food to come back China.

You don't have any better idea rather than trolling around with no point ?

chinese, the location is within 200 miles continental sheft of Viet Nam as on the map shows.

besides, you don't have any island in Spratly, those islands you chines used force to get them while we're at war with the U.S.
those Spratly islands were claimed by our King hundred years ago, we have certain evidences, France also has legal document claim those island belong to An Nam (Vietnam) under their administration. There're also evidence - document from chinese dynasty agreed those Islands belong to us.
we collected all those documents for international debate about sovereignty.

The point is, you've occupied those island, same to 1974 you kill South Vietnamese Sailors to take Paracels (while they were losing). 1988 you kill our sailors to take our Johnson South Reef.

Believe it or not, it's not my concern, I know it's really hard for you to know you government has been brainwashing you guy to fill expansionism into your mind.
to china: The world is not enough for u guy

It will take PLA days to defeat Vietnam and project air and naval power to the Malacca Straits.

Honestly, a lot of Chinese, although they dislike their government. They also suppot the government can recaputure our EEZ.They don't like gov because they think it's too weak when it face to south sea problem with you.
In a lot of Chinese's opinions, the traditional fishing ground can't lose. They don't like wars, but they want to protect their sea, just like you.
Anyway, the Vietnamese in China also be good~~Don't worry
