It was a closely contested only in the opinion polls. On election day all the pan-blues came out to beat down the greens. Truth is many of those pan-blues don't want much to do with mainland China, but they don't want a vote for war, so they are determined to beat down the greens. And in the end, Taiwan spoke: we are a little bit afraid of mainland China, so we're ready for peace.
And the pro-independence forces have no chance in 2016 or afterwards, because China will be way too powerful then with our J-20 already in service and multiple aircraft carriers. It would just make Taiwanese more "respectful" of our interests. Our 2009 parade already made our point clear to the Taiwanese what their risks are.
TW is more than happy to keep the status-quo. it has all the benefits of being independent without declaring it. hell taiwanese companies dominate mainland, whipping hordes of you lot making iphones![]()
