I am refering to East Asia as a whole. Amid some hippcups, many of us still managed to achieve our development for the past 20 to 30+ years.

Don't get over-reacted by those selfish and short-sighted politicians in their country since I won't bet on neither US nor west will get their own hands dirty here being the reason that they have similar cases of claims like China and other countries.

And being asian ourselves, we will not want to Hara-kiri ourselves by helping US nor west to fight against China and destroy our own future. That's why I am here to point the above, should any asian countries including member of asean, India, Japan, Russia, Australia, China etc want to cause unnecessary trouble here, they are totally unwelcome by all and should be treated as trouble makers in Asia.

BTW, Singapore have military agreement with not just only US alone but also many other nations within the west asia pacific region since the Pre cold war. The goal of these pacts is just to ensure stability and peace for our development, and this have been true even until today. In addition, we see China as a force in the region to be reckoned with, providing regional stability and also acting as a catalyst to further boost our economical development.

The other side of the story is Cambodia got independence and freedom from Vietnam imperialism.

And Vietnam suffered from long time standoff with China. Till today Vietnam‘s GDP per capita is only 1/4 of it's neighbours, China, Thailand etc.
