For China, SSBNs matter more than supercarriers. We don't need many supercarriers, but we need enough SSBNs to deter American nuclear arsenal.

For 5000 years when China was #1 in East Asia, the entire continent of asia prospered including India and Vietnam.

In the 19th century, when China became weak, you think Vietnam benefitted? No! They successively became slaves of France, Japan, the US and the Soviet Union. Only with China's rise since 1990, has Vietnam's economy ALSO started developing.
