Balasore: India's nuclear-capable, surface-to-surface Agni-II ballistic missile, with a strike range of 2000 kms, was today test-fired as part of user trial by the army from the Wheeler Island off Orissa coast.

The indigenously developed missile was fired by personnel of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the army from Launch Complex-IV of the Integrated Test Range (ITR)at about 0930 hours, defence sources said. Agni-II, developed as one of the key weapon systems of countrys nuclear deterrence programme, is already under production and has been inducted in the Indian Armed Forces.

The two-stage solid fuel propelled Agni-II missile, developed by Advanced System Laboratory (ASL) and other DRDO laboratories, has a length of 20 metres, diameter of one metre and weighs around 17 tonnes, they said.
It is equipped with a special navigation system to achieve high degree of accuracy. The system is also equipped with anti-ballistic defence counter measures. It can be transported both by rail and road, they said.

The last trial scheduled on August 29 this year was aborted due to some technical problem, the sources said.

A user trial of the missile conducted on May 17 last year from the same base was successful.

Indian Nuke Command Tests Agni-II




India's Agni-II was launched successfully today at 9:30AM from the Eastern seaboard. According to a DRDO statement, "The successful launch once again proved reliability of the medium range surface to surface missile." The 2000-km range surface to surface missile, already inducted and part of countries arsenal for strategic deterrence, was launched as a training exercise by the country's nuclear command. The missile reached an apogee (peak altitude) of 220-km and hit the target. All the radar, telemetry systems, ectopic system tracked & monitored all parameters throughout the trajectory. Two ships located near the target point have tracked the missile in the final stage.

don't be so superstitious , its not like some magical force can have an affect on the outcome on a freakin missile test its all about technology and manufacturing quality, should a missile test fail it is most likely going to be one of those 2 things that caused the missile error.

now Agni 2P and Agni V are left god willing Agni V will be successful thats one hell of a way to end the year with a big bang like Agni V

and i wonder where those haters and trolls are now? looks like they've shut up and crawled back into there holes knowing failure is the pillar of success not reverse engineering, copying, or using or stealing (both illegally) someone else's technology and claiming it to be your own.

This was a SFC test , so naturally it performed perfectly to justify its inducted status.
