Bandipora, Mar 2: Stating that army was receiving support from every segment of Kashmiri society, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, Lt General SA Hasnain, Friday said that situation in Jammu and Kashmir has changed with the passage of time.
“The situation in Kashmir has changed a lot, Kashmir has changed as the people especially youth are coming forward to show their presence and excellence,” General Hasnain said addressing a gathering of youth under the army’s skill development program “Athrot” at Bandipora in north Kashmir. As General Officer Commanding (GOC) of XV Corps, he has held several meetings to redress grievances and concerns of commons citizens, and to bring the Army closer to them.
Interacting with media on the sidelines of the function, General Hasnain complimented the army for their role in serving the people in the state especially in the upper reaches.
Asked was there any relation between the 2008-2010 uprising and carrying out people-based programs by the army, the General said, “This has nothing to do with the 2008-2010 uprising, army was always serving in the same manner, we are always serving the people and understand that army can never live without the involvement of the people.”
He said, “World has changed, Kashmir has changed so the army has also changed.”
Commenting on the recent avalanches, General Hasnain said, “Every year avalanches damage the border fencing, there is always threat of infiltration but we always change our modus operandi to stop whoever tries to infiltrate.”
At the end of the function vote of thanks was presented by Congress leader and former Planning Minister Usman Majeed.
