India is a diverse country and is the home to different cultures,languages,people and religions. India is the birth place of world’s four major religions-Hinduism,Buddhism,Jainism and Sikhism. India also was the foundation for spreading Islam and Christianity in Asia. India,today hosts almost every major religion in the world.

According to the 2001 census,Hinduism accounted for 80.5% of the population of India. Islam (13.4%), Christianity (2.3%), Sikhism (1.9%), Buddhism (0.77%) and Jainism(0.46%) are the other major religions followed by the people of India.
