The assertation that this DRDO AWACS project is in repose to Paksitan/China is utter, utter BS. The writer doesn't take into account that India inducted the PHALCON AWACS back in 2009 and this is the most powerful and capable susch system in operation by anyone and in fact it is the neighbours who ave taken reactionary measures against this ie SAAB Erieye and ZDK inductions. The ongoing DRDO project is just another project trying to boost the R&D capabilities of India. The article makes out India is behind until the DRDO AWACS comes online but in actuality the IAF already has 3 PHALCON AWACs with two more to be orders this FY.
    KRAIT thanked this.

I had actually highlighted the relevant part of the article. So we should focus on that. Rest of it is mostly old info or junk (typical of TOIlet).

OT...It would have been much wiser for DRDO to have gone for a foreign partner (French/Israeli) for this project. They are already behind schedule on the first AWACS project. The first one is still to fly with the radar accessories. This project itself will take a few years to mature.

So DRDO going for another project without much experience will only result in endless delays. I hoped the babus in MOD would have become wiser from the Kaveri fiasco but sadly nothing has changed.
