Thumbs up Militant for 10 years in Pak, he returned to India to lead a normal life

Poonch, Jammu: Mukhtar Ahmed is hoping for some normalcy in his life, now that he's back in his home village in Poonch in Jammu. Mukhtar is not just any villager of the area. A militant, training for 10 years in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (P0K), he decided to give up arms and returned to India last week, with his Pakistani wife and three kids hoping to lead a life sans violence and death.

The decision hasn't been without danger and risk. Crossing over 'illegally' to India from the Mendhar sector, he and his family had to dodge the Pakistani Army and border surveillance mechanisms of India and Pakistan. "All I want to do now is to lead a peaceful life and that desire pushed me to take the risk," he explains.

So after escaping from the Pakistani army, Mukhtar and his family were spotted by the Indian Army and arrested. They were then questioned and handed over to the Jammu Police. Only after Jammu police finished interrogating him was he then let off to meet his family.

Bless his soul. I must say, he's a very brave man. To risk everything and to summon the courage to face an unbeatable adversary ( pak army ) ; takes greatness.

For his courage, i salute him.

    Welcome to India.

    10 years of militancy background
    being trained by Pakistan army
    Crossing over 'illegally' to India

All these are pretty heavy charges given that these are true. Its not quite easy to digest your security forces allowing him to live his life this easily. What if PA is trying to plant a mole From the news it seems like higher chances are he was some Indian agents who just returned back.

guys what is the policy of Indian army in such cases. Are they tried for their past and put behind bars? if so for ho many years.

or if the security forces believe the person genuinely wants to give up arms, then is he pardoned from any jail sentence and allowed to rehabilitate with his family?

Allowing who ? Read the charges again which are clearly claiming he was involved in militancy etc since when your army is showing soft corner to so called militants? The points I raised place a big question mark on Indian sensibilities.

Since a while now. The Indian govt has a policy of rehabilitating ex-militants who want to give up arms and join mainstream India. Many ex-militants have taken advantage of this policy to return to India, where they can lead a better life than in pakistan. The only stumbling block in this arrangement is the pak army, which doesn't let many of these militants return, because of which they have to risk their lives to return. As the article explains.

Here, if you want to read more on this policy:

The Saudis have a similar concept of reintroducing such people into normalcy and de-brainwashing them.
Sadly nothing like this exists in Pakistan..

10 year is long enough to realize that life does not give everything you want. He is doing himself and his own people a favour by leading a normal life. It is not going to be easy though.

If it would have been 'deep down' thing for him, he would not need to go to pakistan in first place to receive 'training' ...
