India`s efforts to produce nuclear submarine on schedule


New Delhi, Jan 09: India's efforts to make a nuclear submarine on its own is "on schedule", Defence Minister A K Antony said on Wednesday.

"The efforts for the production of an Advanced Technology Vehicle-- an acronym for nuclear submarine-- is going on as per schedule", Antony said in reply to a volley of questions on the subject during an interaction here.

Citing country's national interest, the Minister declined to elaborate.

Defence Ministry officials have said the country's first indigenous ATV would be ready for sea trials by 2009.

India is also in the process of acquiring advanced Russian nuclear submarines on lease. Though Indian officials were tightlipped, Russian sources said the first of these subs would be delivered by next year.

After the interaction, Antony told PTI that no fresh progress had been made in resolving the delivery of Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Groshkov though negotiations were on.

The two countries are deadlocked over the pricing of the warship. India is supposed to get the delivery of the aircraft carrier next year but Russia told India that they cannot stick to the time schedule due to heavy cost overuns on the warship's upgrading.

Offcourse! Afterall every coin has two sides and Indian media is no exception to it. But still Media is sphering some time to take a look at in our defence segaments.

You know Malay, Indian Media publish only those things which are being intersted by People. People around me from any sphere wheater they are from my family, friends or working colleague, they don't have any kind of interest whatsoever in defence segament and hence under such circumstances it become imperative on the part media to publish whatever they want wheather it is relating to positive or negative news about defence regardless of people's interest, they are still doing fantastic job to keep ordinary man well informed about our countries defence prepardness.

Only projects that are under taken can ever be delayed. If no project then no delay...

Delay is part of any project. Especially when the requisite skill needs to be developed from the scratch. The same will happen to the initial Air defense Ship being build at the Cochin Shipyard. But as time progress maturity in skill and technology can be attained.

True. nearly all good projects suffer delays. take eurofighter typhoon and rafale. hell, take NASA's international space station! decades of delay and gross budget over-runs!
