Default 3 soldiers killed in cross-border firing in Poonch

Three Indian soldiers were reportedly killed during cross-border firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district on Wednesday.
In the second truce violation within two days, Pakistani troops initially resorted to small arms firing on the forward post of Kranti around 1.45pm.

Havildar Harvinder Singh, who was manning the post, was killed.
Singh could not be rescued as the Pakistani troops continued firing with automatic machine guns on the rescue teams, said Col RK Palta, public relations officer (PRO), defence.

The body was not recovered till the filing of the report.

Col Palta said two more soldiers were injured in the rescue operation.

However, army sources said that the Indian soldiers resorted to heavy firing from air defence guns and the two soldiers were killed when the barrel of one of the guns exploded.

As per intelligence inputs, the units deployed in Krishna Ghati sector and its adjoining areas were asked to retaliate.

This is the 14th truce violation in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch this year. The Pakistani army is in a dominating position in these areas and has been targeting Kranti, Kirpan and other forward posts.

Meanwhile, a BSF constable who was injured on Monday in cross-border firing died in an army hospital on Wednesday.

On June 11, Pakistani soldiers of Mujahideen Regiment from the Daku post fired at constable PK Mishra of a BSF battalion with a sniper rifle. He was airlifted to Command Hospital, Udhampur, where he died.
