LONDON: An international conference on Kashmir organized by oldest British government think tank RUSI is starting here in London on Tuesday.
The Royal United Institute for Defense and Security Studies has been evincing interest in Kashmir for quite some time but since 2009 it has been holding conferences on Kashmir and its connection to regional security in South Asia.
The conference is aimed at examining the potential ‘spill over’ from the conflict in Afghanistan and the effect of a protracted conflict on Pakistan’s western front on Kashmir’s security.
The chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, has been invited to the conference.
A panel of well-known experts from India, Pakistan, UK and USA will be identifying measures to curb descent towards another full-scale violence in Kashmir. Those who will be making their presentation include Maj. Gen. Mehta, (retd), Prof. Richard Boney, Alexander Neil, Head of Asian Security at RUSI, Robert Bradnock Kings College, UK, Rifat Hussain, Professor, Quaid-e-Azami, Karachi, Zahid Muhammad, editor, Peace Watch, Ahmer Bilal Soofi, president, Society of International Law, Gulam Nabi Fai, N.A. Shawl, Justice Foundation, London, Angana Chatterji, California University and Victoria Schofield, an author and analyst.
