    Default Terminator Russian BMPT

Chechen fighters utterly pwned the Russian Federation's tanks during the Battle of Grozny, targeting the vehicles' thinly-armored roofs with RPGs from rooftop sniper nests. Russia's go-to anti-personnel armor at the time, the BMP-2, couldn't raise its turrets high enough to return fire. So, Russia began do develop an armored support vehicle designed for a dense, urban combat zone—the Terminator.
The Boyevaya Mashina Podderzhki Tankov (BMPT translates into "Tank Support Fighting Vehicle"—the Terminator is its nickname) has been produced by the Uralvagonzavod company since 1995. Designed to protect tanks from infantry and anti-armor forces, the Terminator engages multiple targets simultaneously, allowing the tanks to focus on what they do best—shooting hardened targets (like other tanks).

The BMPT, based on the Russian T-72 battle tank chassis, is powered by a 1,000HP V-92S2 diesel that allows the 52 ton, 22-foot long vehicle to reach speeds up to 40 MPH. It's operated by a crew of five. Defensively, the BMPT sports steel-hardened active and passive reactive armor. The active armor has a small charge sandwiched between armor plates, which detonates to deflect incoming charges. Passive armor does the same thing sans the explosive, with kevlar lining the vehicle interior to defend against spalling. The BMPT is also protected against NBC (nuclear, biological, and chemical) weapons, and it's outfitted with an automatic fire extinguisher system. If the situation gets really hairy, the BMPT can fire smoke grenades for camouflage. All in all, the Terminator's defensive capabilities and heritage put it on par with the Main Battle Tanks that it defends.

Offensively, well, it's not called the Terminator for nothing—dual 30-mm auto-cannons with a 600RPM feed are loaded with 850 rounds each of various fragmentation and piercing ordnance (specifically HE-T, APDS, HE-FRAG and AP-T). Dual remote-controlled 30-mm automatic grenade launchers, four anti-tank missile launchers and one coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun make the BMPT absolutely deadly against infantry, light vehicles, even friggin' helicopters. And since each weapon system can be fired independently by either the commander or the gunner, the Terminator can take on up to three enemies simultaneously. It operates effectively day or night, regardless of weather conditions, thanks to computerized firing controls (adapted from the T-90 battle tank) as well as PNK ranging sights for both the Commander and Gunner.

Like Schwarzenegger with a mini-gun, if you see one of these coming—you'd better run.

It would be interesting to note that while Russians were struggling to get an edge in the first war, the second war almost annihilated Grozny.

Their mistake was the use of tanks to capture points in an urban environment. It's an impractical tactic. Tactical flexibility is what really counts.

First though wow cool pic this certainly looks impressive

But really what is it but a t-72 chassi recycled with out a main gun.

What really makes the terminator any better at urban warfare than a MBT

    Like Schwarzenegger with a mini-gun
    RPG-29 and its still toast.

Modified T-72 chassis. It’s actually quite a bit heavier than a T-72, despite not having a turret and if I were to guess I would guess that a turret with cannon and auto loader would be heavier than twin 30mm cannons and four ATGM housings. The front as well as the side of the vehicle also has additional armor, especially the front.

A tank basically has a small machine gun and a cannon for protection. Using a cannon on enemy forces trying to move in on your position would be difficult because although a cannon is powerful it would be difficult hitting an enemy that would be dispersed, on top of that the round would have to hit either a building or It would have to make impact with the ground and if the cannon misses its target it would take a while to reload. The Terminator is better because it can fire its twin 30 mm cannon which can carry a variety of different ammunition including high explosive fragment rounds and unlike a tank canon the twin 30 mm canons can provide sustained fire. On top of that the BMPT also has 7.62 mm machine gun and of course ATGM’s.

In essence the BMPT can lay down higher sustained fire power than a tank and is more efficient at engaging enemy soldiers.

Maybe, maybe not. I believe the RPG-29 knocked out a number of Merkavas. How well this chassis is protected is not known, all that is known is that it does have additional armor. The BMPT may withstand an RPG-29 round in certain areas but we don’t know anything as of yet. The most common RPG is the RPG-7 and the BMPT can likely withstand an RPG-7 from nearly all areas just as the T-90 has proven. Other than that it can withstand IED’s as well as mines, at least up to a certain point.

In essence it has superior firepower/rate of fire as compared to a tank or APC. Protection is at least as good as a T-90 and probably better than a T-72 since it’s a lot heavier. And when comparing its armor with an APC there really is no competition.

but the 1 Million Ugandan Dollar Question is

    who will bell the cat?

who will risk his life to come within 400 yards to make the kill? keep those dual 30MM autocanons in mind while answering the question

What's wrong with using a T-72 layout? The T-90 already uses it. The Type-90 series uses it.

It's an operationally proven platform, and easy to mass-produce quickly - unlike those Western behemoths like the M1 Abrams, Chally and Merkava series!

Please, bear in mind those RPG-29s knocked out those pre-Mk.IV Merkava tanks during the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict!

Underestimate the best of the East at your peril!

I would be right up ther but for the arrow i took to the knee, considering my poor eye sight and limited sprinting capacity i feel i can best contribute in a logistic capacity
