6,000 species of plants exist in Pakistan Cadaba Heterotricha KARACHI: More than 6,000 species of plants exist in Pakistan, stated University of Karachi Senior Research Scientist, Prof. Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan. He pointed out that some of these plant species are very rare and exist only in Pakistan. Ajmal said that research is underway on some of these plants by Haider Abbas of University of Karachi’s A.Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Muhammad Qaiser. He informed that among these species the most prominent plant is Cadaba Heterotricha, which is close to extinction due to the unfavorable weather conditions and the careless approach of human beings towards the plant. A scientific approach for the preservation of this plant was stressed. Ajmal was of the view that this plant should be confined for horticulture purposes. This plant only exists along the coastal regions of Pakistan and Somalia and was first discovered on the coast of Karachi in the year 1860 by British scientist Mr. Stock. isn't pakistan doing anything for it's environment? greenery projects like replanting trees, anything? I was sick because of the lack of the color "green" when i went to karachi. most of the people were pleased with new parks being built, but those parks had no trees whatsoever.

Unfortunately we're doing very little to safe flora and fauna in our country due budget restrictions. Most ongoing projects are led by WNF or Greenpeace with foreign (financial) assitance.
