Default Why does India want to compare itself to China?

Why do Indians want to compare their nation to China, & equate Pakistan to Afghanistan, when by all socioeconomic, political, health, development measures etc, India & Pakistan are very similar; & India is nothing like Pakistan. Saying Pakistan is like Afghanistan is like saying India is like Afghanistan.

    So just a few examples:

    1) GDP per capita:

    Pakistan------India-------China

    $1207-------$1400-------$4400

    2) Current account balance:

    Pakistan------------India----------------China

    $-1.85 billion----$-51.78 billion----$+305.4 billion

    3) Inflation:

    Pakistan---------India----------China

    11%------------9.39%----------4.2%

    4) Unemployment:

    Pakistan---------India----------China

    5.95%-----------9.4%----------4.3%

    5) Structure of economy (% of GDP by sector):

    -----------Pakistan-----India-------China

    agriculture: 21.2%------19%-------10.2%
    --industry: 25.4%------26.3%----46.9%
    --services: 53.4%----54.7%----43.0%

    6) Life expectancy at birth (years):

    Pakistan-------India--------China

    65.4----------65.4----------73.5

    7) Education Index (expected & mean years of schooling):

    Pakistan-------India---------China

    0.386---------0.45----------0.623

    8) Income Inequality Index:

    Pakistan--------India----------China

    0.346----------0.392---------0.534

    9) Multidimensional Poverty Index:

    Pakistan--------India----------China

    0.264----------0.283---------0.056

    10) Gender Inequality Index:

    Pakistan-------India---------China

    0.573---------0.617--------0.209

Why does China want to compare itself to US? I am sure the difference between China and US is much larger than that between India and China

Anyway it is not that Indians compare themselves with Chinese. It the western media that compares. May be the population sizes and economic growth rates of two countries prompt the western media to compare...who knows, I think you should put the question to western media

Even in terms of other statistics, like safety/security, & even the energy index, India is nothing like China. This is the 2011 Energy Development Index:

As you can see, India & Pakistan are pretty close to each other, whereas China is way ahead of both countries. And this is considering Pakistan's energy troubles these days.

China & the US are completely different countries. China has many strengths where the US has weaknesses (& vice versa). India has no strengths when it compares itself to China.

It is the Indian media that compares itself, thinking of their country as the next big superpower.

Do you really think without some kind of comparative advantage India grew nearly 8% per annum for the last 10 years?

My god,the man is obsessed to the point of frothing in the mouth. Is it costing anyone a damn thing for the Indian media to compare India with China Bilal? We would like replicate some of China's success,Is that a bad thing?

So stop worrying about India, stop worshiping China and start working on Pakistan.May that principle guide your future thread quests instead of opening a nonsensical rant every now and then.

India's growth rate has not improved the country's socioeconomic & development parameters much. India's (democracy/) growth is basically meant for & benefits only a few individuals, whereas the conditions for the rest of India remains the same, as indicated by all the parameters in my opening post.

You call this thread a nonsensical rant? I've quoted the most reliable figures coming out of the IMF, World Bank, CIA World Factbook, UN etc.

There has to be a starting point. First, the wealth has to be created to be distributed. Any developing country that starts developing fast will have inequalities. It is not that liberalization of the country has not benefited the mass, but the benefit has been unequal.

It is not that India is an isolated case. Even China is also experiencing similar inequalities.

    The following paper should help

If I was worrying about India, I'd be sitting on an Indian Defense Forum. Oh wait...

I am talking about your habit of opening the same BS thread every two weeks with the same "Oh what's wrong with India" theme.Get this straight, obsessing over us doesn't change a damn ground reality in Pakistan.Sure,we have our issues but we have made massive strides in the right direction as well.If we all sat down and focused on the negative indicators like you do,we would never move forward.China is a great yardstick as it too faces many of the same problems that we do.So sue us if you don't like it that we compare ourselves with them.

There are positive stories about India by the same sources like as well(which I recall I did post for your reading pleasure earlier) and we will continue to progress forward. You keep yourself acquainted with the negative ones if that makes your nation look better or grants personal relief.
