Default Abu Dhabi Crown Prince sits by roadside with ‘lost’ school-girl

    January 29, 2013

General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, waiting next to the little girl till her father shows up.

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince sits by roadside with ‘lost’ school-girl till dad comes to pick her up

The girl was not too flustered in the presence of royalty - saying her parents told her not to speak to strangers.

Abu Dhabi residents and motorists were greeted with a sight they are unlikely to see again.

General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was sitting calmly by the side of the road.

However, that was just the beginning of the story.

In another incident that shows the great humility and love that the leaders of the UAE have for their people - it transpires that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed was driving in Abu Dhabi when he saw the girl outside a school looking around as though she was lost.

Sheikh Mohammed parked his car and went with his assistant to the girl, asking if she was lost and offering to drive to her home.

The little girl replied that her father was supposed to pick her up and she was waiting for him.

She then responded that she could not accept the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi’s offer to drive her home because her dad told her not to speak to strangers.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed’s assistant then told the little girl that this was no stranger and went on to introduce the Crown Prince.

The girl answered: Yes, I know, but my dad said not to go with any strangers.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed then smiled he decided to wait next to the girl till her father showed-up.

The picture here was taken by one of the school teachers.

The story first broke on a UAE Facebook page and the plaudits and comments began to flow in.

Comments left on the page included:

Veera Sequeira wrote: So down to earth!

While Sherif Embabi added: Like son like father. God bless him and God bless UAE.

Demetra Gargasoulas added: What a true gentleman! And a very smart little girl!

Rhonda Weese said: “This is why I am in love with everything to do with AD. I love the pride and family feeling you get when you live there,” to which Stacey Barham added: “Everyone should have time to help someone if they need it! Good on him for helping and having morals.”

Emirates 24|7’s Facebook page was quickly filling up with admirers as well.

Tahir Afzal Khan wrote: “What a man. Love you Sir,” while Sufi Muhammad Junooni commented: “Respect to Sheikh Mohammad.”

Francis Fernandes commented: “God bless him!,” and Bilkisu Yaqha adds “That makes him a great leader.”

This incident actually happened in the summer of 2011 if i remember correctly, But it is being circulated now in the media and just thought of sharing with you guys.

How many of our politicians and senior officials did something like this if not something better to show that government is for the people of the people and by the people?

Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (the ruler of Dubai) once said we (the government) are for the service of the people and not the other way around.

Unescorted Sheikh Mohammed surprises shoppers in Saudi Arabia

Newspaper says Mohammed toured malls without security

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, surprised shoppers in Saudi Arabia when he took time out of the Arab economic summit and visited malls in the Gulf Kingdom.

Sheikh Mohammed made the unscheduled tour of some shopping outlets in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Tuesday without any guards normally assigned to high ranking officials, prompting shoppers to surround him for token photographs.

“What attracted the shoppers was the absence of any security normally provided to senior officials when they make such tours. This illustrates Sheikh Mohammed’s humbleness and magnanimity,” the Saudi daily Ajel said.

“Many shoppers at the malls rushed towards Sheikh Mohammed when they noticed there were no guards and had photographs with him as he welcomed them.”

Sheikh Mohammed represented the UAE at the Riyadh Arab economic summit before returning home late Tuesday.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, surprised commuters on Tuesday when he took the Dubai Metro Green Line to an appointment in Deira.

Sheikh Mohammed sets an example by taking the Dubai Metro

Commuters on Dubai Metro's Green Line were surprised to find themselves travelling with the ruler of the emirate on Monday.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took the metro on Monday evening en route to an official engagement in Deira.

A picture of the Sheikh, supplied to The National by Dubai Media Office, was widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter today, prompting the Sheikh to take to his Twitter account.

"I used Dubai Metro yesterday while conducting an official visit," he wrote. "I encourage all to utilize Dubai advanced transportation." His post was retweeted by more than 100 people in the first 20 minutes.

"I'm loving Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid's photo using the Metro to avoid Gitex Traffic!" wrote one Twitter user, who speculated that the Ruler was either on his way to the electronics exhibition at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Other sources said it is more likely he was on his way to the Al Futtaim family home in Deira to offer his condolences to the family on the death of their son, Uthman Abdullah Al Futtaim.

A source at Dubai Metro confirmed that the picture was taken on Monday, and said that it was all people could talk about since. "Everyone knows about it," he said.

This was not, however, Sheikh Mohammed's first trip on the Dubai Metro. Most recently, he rode on the Green Line on 9 September, 2011 at its inauguration - exactly two years after doing the same thing when he opened the Red Line.

And in October last year, the Ruler launched the trial run of the Green Line, which runs for 22.5km between Dubai Healthcare City and the Etisalat Station in Al Qusais with a total of 20 stops.

According to an official statement from the Ruler's office, travelling with residents is the sheikh's way of encouraging more people to use the "latest addition to the city's advanced transport network".

this is just to gain public sympathy. Nothing serious.

Now the question we should ask is, why it took Emirates 24/7 approx 2 years to wake up n report such a high profile News???
