Default Rs350 million Lake View Park 'to be used for marriage ceremony'

Monday, August 27, 2007
Muhammad Anis

Islamabad

Believe it or not, the marriage ceremony of a member of an influential family would mark the opening of Lake View Park, which has been developed as a recreational site for general public on the bank of Rawal Lake.

It has been learnt that VIPs of the country have been invited to attend the ceremony and they have given their consent to grace the occasion. Sources said that the occasion would be the wedding of a close relative of a former federal minister on September 4. The gentleman was a member of the federal cabinet after General Pervez Musharraf took over as chief executive of the country.

As VIPs would turn up at the function to be held after sunset, the picnic spot might be closed for general public a day or two before the event. The site would be handed over security personnel who would remain there till the end of the event.

It would be unique in country's history that the first-ever event at a recreational site meant for general public would a marriage ceremony, for which 25 acres of developed land would be given at the disposal of an influential family.

More interestingly, it has also been learnt that a paltry sum of Rs25,000 would be paid as charges to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for giving space for the function. It has been learnt that work on installation of lights is being given final touches on emergency basis to make the park available on September 4.

Sources said that CDA contractors have been disengaged from other projects and asked to complete the remaining work at Lake View Park.

'The News' visited the site of Lake View Park, which was informally opened for visitors before its completion. The residents of twin cities and people belonging to other parts of the country had started visiting the site about six to seven months back.

"It would be a violation of people's rights if the recreational spot was closed for them to accommodate VIPs," said member of a family who visited the park on Sunday when asked to comment whether such facilities could be used for marriage ceremonies and other such events.

He said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan should take notice of it. He said that once a precedent is set to allow holding of a marriage ceremonies then there would be no end to it and people would suffer.

Capital Development Authority officials tried to keep the issue secret from the media that permission had been given to hold a marriage ceremony in the park. CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari did not talk to 'The News' on the issue. Later, he was not available on telephone. The Lake View Park, spread over an area of 25 acres, would cost the CDA Rs350 million.

I think its not worth having openning ceremony during marraige!!! he could have waited bit to avoid attack from pessimistic jurnalists
but any how if he has not avoided that look at the other side of pic!!!

i think by having opening ceremony of this lake view park during marraige ceremony wont make him the owner of that park will he???????
