The orator is Dr. Zakir Abdul Karim Naik. In an issue of Indian Express dated 22 February 2009, in a list of "100 Most Powerful Indians in 2009" Naik was ranked #82. In the special list of the "Top 10 Spiritual Gurus of India" Naik was ranked #3, after Baba Ramdev and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and was the only Muslim on that list.

I cursorily saw that clip when it was posted on this forum, and I distinctly remember him saying something to the tune of "In an Islamic state, yes, an apostate would be killed".

Where's the "I (Z.N.) decree/think they SHOULD be killed" part? In your imagination kind sir.

Since the State doesn't exist, and hasn't existed for a long time, apostates could heave a sigh of relief and go about their business.

Did you know being Muslim was tantamount to being loyal to The State. You defect, you commit treason.

Zakir Naik is a performer. He makes people's pre-conceptions only stronger, and does not help change any existing views. So if someone has a pre-conception that Islam is a violent religion, by watching Zakir Nair they will be reassured in their view. He's a very bad representative and shouldn't be encouraged. There are many other amazing Muslim speakers who dont need to quote outside borders of Islamic scriptures or make comparisons with other religions.

I just want the members to watch these video to learn that the basic principle of all the religions are almost same. Like he just proved similarity between Bhagavad Gita and Holy Quran. Its only stupids like you and me who fought over whose religion is "better" or more "right." But the truth is: They are all the same and aim the same; to serve humanity and make earth a better place.

I wouldn't call Zakir a total failure but there are things that need to be explained and asked from Zakir Naik therefore you can't labeled him a total failure atleast your way down the list as well.

Secondly who gives damn about your book, again whatever he has said you need to reconfirm and ask him personally before slapping a self fatwa of failure.

Zakir Naik said something in from The Quran that is infact a positive sign and encourages people of all religions to come together and discuss and respect each other, and that was "Come to common terms as between you and us".

I'm neutral person as I said before things said and some people have objections to it they should contact him directly ask and discuss to be clarified its not like he is running away. Lastly look into your own selves pious entities!

Zakir naik is an abosolute failure in my books and is in the same leauge as Moulana Modoodi. He is a puppet mouth piece of Indian goverment who has no balls to talk about Muslim issues, slow cultural death of indian muslims, the fast losing islamic identity of indian muslims, growing anti-muslim radicalization while a big mouth to talk rubbish and lots of dedication towards hindu appeasement and anti pakistan stance. Every indian muslim now a days is literally worshipping zakir naik. I doubt his ambitions are driven by personal greed of fame. Soon someone will award him the saint status, start building his statues and he will be worshipped like another hindu diety.

India has a pied piper type culture where people adore their peers / faqirs / mureeds / sahdus / scholars and so forth. This is exploited by likes of Zakir naik who can steer swarms of people to their weekly circus.

Dr. Zakir Naik's baseline is that he's sort of decent. But unfortunately like most public figures hes been caught saying some horrendous things now and then. There are always some explanations, but personally I think he can be treated as a commentator, and not as a leader on socio-theology.

People having fan followings of him is just wrong. I don't think hes ever aimed to become a leader or have any political aspirations, but some people defend him like he is correct about anything and everything.

Religion in my view should not have any leadership and should remain as a personal thing.

SO I think every Hindu and Muslim should watch this but shouldn't define their religious views as followers of these guys.

This might be something unknown to most non-Muslims but most Islamic Mullahs, are excellent orators within their scope of audience, they know how to captivate their audience. Zakir Naik only has a multicultural, massive audience.

I personally hear out all of them. Zakir Naik did what? Quoted all that has been written in books, its simple to understand, if you make the little bit extra effort to read things in context.

What do non-Muslims do when they want to learn about Islam? Google "Jihad quotes from Quran" and you'll probably get a lot of out of context quotes from Faith Freedom or Answering Islam a central hang out spot for religious bigots.

Its a total cop out by people who aren't willing to go the extra mile.
