W/C Azhar Ismael.... crashed near sargodha, fuel warning could not eject why??
Landing gear unsafe indication after take off on a dusk mission. While he was burning fuel before coming for landing, he had an oil system failure. Aircraft developed very high sink rate and when Azhar ejected, it was already too late. Seat-man separation couldn’t take place and he impacted ground before his chute could blossom fully. God bless his soul. |

Any emergency close to the runway is always very tricky in a sense that pilot always thinks that he can make it to the runway and save the crippled aircraft. So many pilots have lost their lives in the vicinity of the airfield when they tried to land back an aircraft that is either on fire or engine seized or compressor stalled or some other serious emergency. Even if your aircraft is on fire, the cockpit still seems to be the cosiest place in the whole universe and the thought of ejecting into an unfriendly hostile environment especially when the runway is also in sight, hold back many pilots from dumping their aircraft. It’s a decision that has cost many lives in every airforce and unfortunately pilots will continue to do so.

A small correction here that Flt Lt Naseem Tariq crashed in F-86, not in F-6. He was rehearsing for the air display of 7 September, while doing a loop his one of the wings got separated and aircraft went into an uncontrolled spiral dive and F/L Tariq never ejected. It was perhaps the last crash of F-86 in PAF because whole fleet was phased out after some time of this accident. Imran Tariq who was an infant when his father crashed also joined the PAF. While flying a low level strike mission in F-7 in 2004, he too crashed close to Mianwali .Its assumed that he either had a bird strike or he lost situational awareness (SA) while executing a high G turn at 200 feet from ground. God bless their souls.

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.
