MOSCOW - A Defense Ministry spokesman told Interfax-AVN that five servicemen were killed and three others injured by an explosion during the unloading of old ammunition in the Mulino garrison in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region on May 2.
"All those injured have been taken to the garrison hospital," the spokesman said.
He said the ministry had appointed a commission to investigate the incident, and that the commander of the Western Military District, Col. Gen. Arkady Bakhin, had gone to the garrison.
The ammunition was past its service life.
