The question is: Are Saudis willing to use these weapons?? These are not just for a show piece you know....

Can we be sure that Saudis won't drop their weapons in the middle of a war and declare truce like the Gulf War?

In the past we have seen that even a slightest terrorist attack in the country forces them to call upon the French and Pakistani Armed forces to take action...

Well, the symptoms are there. UAE begged and got some F 22s. It it is Iran, they will rent the US army probably. This is because they know they will be wiped out from the map in any war with Iran if they don't take US help.

    Let alone Israel.

The problem with all these toys is simple: they're not strategic assets nor do the Saudis have any deterrent capabilities. A conventional asset is only reliable if there is an assembly line backing it up at time of war. Without it there is no point. Iran was the best example where state of the art weapons became useless after the Americans stopped their support.

Now let's look at capability of the armed forces. Can these assets take out, say, Iran's hydroelectric dams in Northern Iran? No they can't. Can Iranian missiles take out power stations in Saudi Arabia and The UAE, yeah, according to this missile expert (fast forward to: 43:56).

A Fateh 110 with a CEP of 500 meters can take out power stations in The UAE (10 missiles are required at this CEP). A Fateh 110 is a short range ballistic missile that costs pennies compared to all this fancy mumbo jombo that does nothing but rust and drain the country's budget with it. On one hand you have an strategic asset while on the other hand you have a fancy state of the art system that is aimed at an imaginery foe. This fancy system cannot be relied on as it's a foreign procurement nor can it be used to project much power.

now let's look at smtg interesting: military expenditure of various countries. Look at Saudi Arabia. That figure is not sustainable. In fact, Israel and Iran didn't spend that much when they were at war with their neighbors.

Thank you , very informative video. Watching now.

The fact that this analysis is by an Israeli scientist should be an eyeopener for everyone.
    Abii thanked this.

no to forget the THAAD system, patriot pac3 and aegis. in fact the THAAD system can detect and destroy any missile in its first stage.

One think comes to my mind...

Al Saud Al Saud sat on a throne,
    Al Saud Al Saud had a great fall;
All the weapons and all the king's men
Couldn't put Al Saud together again.

Without US made equipment Iran couldn't fight Iraq in GW1. F-4,5 and some of F-14 and many other US arms Iran posses still operational after 33 years of sanctions. BTW, KSA home manufacture/upgrade spare parts of those toys...
Fateh 110 is easier to make than a car with 4 wheels. It's a short ranged ballistic missile, not a scud. You can get cute all you want and troll, but so can I remember

@ 500 CEP we're being extremely hard on the missile.

"he missile might be as accurate as 100 m CEP using a combination of inertial guidance and a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system"

But let's say it's 500 meters. Iran produces 1.6 million automobiles per year. 10 Fateh 110 missiles can take out 1 power station in UAE. You do the math. How many missiles do you think we need to take out the water desalination plants, power plants etc? We have enough short ranged missiles to use them as artillery. UAE could literally go dark by the time their jets even get to Iran's Southern borders.

You said an F-15 can carry 11 tons of weapons. You didn't tell me how that F-15 is going to reach the hydroelectric dam in say, Karaj, in Northern Iran.

    read my previous post.

"The THAAD project, originally known as the Theater High Altitude Area Defense system, began in 1992 when the Missile Defense Agency awarded a $689 million development contract to Lockheed Martin and subcontractors Raytheon, Datatape, and EBCO. Initial successes were encouraging. In the late 1990s, however, THAAD missed six out of eight of its attempted intercepts, and many dismissed the project as an expensive failure. MDA decided to backtrack. Between 2000 and 2003, THAAD engineers reworked the entire system and fixed many of its inherent problems and redundancies."

A 75 percent miss ratio, that's pathetic! And god knows what "reworked" really means. The entire thing is an expensive joke, but they somehow convinced you arabs.

A 75 percent miss ratio under perfect conditions. In a battle scenario, even if it hits one it would be lucky. At best this system might be able to save one power plant if it's lucky.

btw, the miserable 2/8 rate was achieved in a controlled environment against singular ballistic missile tagets. At time of war, Iran will fire a platora of different missiles (Qiam, fateh, Zelzal etc...) and even a 2/8 cannot be achieved.

But the most important question is that being the custodian of Mecca and Madina, which Muslim country will attack SA for which SA is spenidng so much money on its military?...Where is the threat that SA is getting? ....Looks strange to me knowing that without any substantial threat perception, why any country will spend such a big money on defence?

yeah it's very weird. As I said, even at war Iran and Israel weren't spending 10-12 percent on military. Doesn't matter how much money you have (Saudis are still a developing country at best), 10 percent will simply make you bankrupt in the end.

I don't think they see Iran as a threat, their leaders I mean, but they sell the idea of a dangerous Iran to their citizens to justify this extreme spending. The Americans are honestly using the GCC as a funding source for all their random projects. This THAAD missile defence for example is nothing short of a failure, but they somehow managed to convince the arabs to fund the project.
    longbrained thanked this.

Either US or the baby Israel or even Iran simply it is just preperaing its self in self defence if GOD forgive ever needed and war is called upon them.

If SA is preparing to fight with Israel or USA...Then trust me they are just wasting their succesful economy towards bankrupcy..And if they think Iran as a threat...then it just seems immature move by SA...
