The word genocide implies some sort of grand plan to exterminate a race/ethnic group. Quite clearly that was not the intention of the Ottomans. Yes a large number of Armenians died and many massacred but most died whilst being forced to march from the border areas where they had been colluding with the enemy. As such it is extremely wrong to classify Turkey in the same category as Germany with regards to Hitlers policy on the Jews which had a clear intent of eradicating a race from the face of the planet.

Armenians had lived in the Ottoman Empire for centuries prior to this. If the Turks had any sort of animosity towards the Armenians, they had 500 years to take care of the issue. Obviously they did not have anything against the Armenians. Rather the Armenian merchants thrived under Ottoman rule. So no i do not believe an Arminian Genocide happened. Massacres of Armenians no doubt happened but for that partial blame lies with themselves due to their collusion with the Russians. Further on the Armenians and Russians had been involved in the ethnic cleansing of Muslims from the Caucases killing Turks and Azeris.
