Speaker bans entry of Hamid Mir in NA

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly speaker has banned the entry of journalist Hamid Mir in the press gallery and he was not allowed to render his professional obligations

“The entry of Hamid Mir was banned under the rules of procedure of the National Assembly,” Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain replied to a PML-N legislator on Tuesday.

PML-N lawmaker Khwaja Saad Rafique on a point of order requested the speaker to allow entry of Hamid Mir to press gallery so that he could render his professional obligations. However, the speaker told him that Mir’s entry was banned under rules of procedure of the National Assembly.

Khwaja Saad, however, said that banning the entry of Hamid Mir was against the freedom of press. PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also requested the speaker to allow the entry of Hamid Mir. However, the speaker said that Hamid Mir’s entry was banned according the rules and procedures of the National Assembly.

Hamid Mir, who hosts popular talk show “Capital Talk” on Geo TV was banned by the NA speaker to enter the press gallery after a scuffle with alleged non-journalists in the gallery, following the mediapersons’ walkout from the gallery as a mark of protest against the promulgation of recently amended Pemra ordinance.

The journalist community staged a strong protest against the promulgation of Pemra ordinance the other day in the press gallery of the Parliament House and boycotted the proceeding of the National Assembly.

When the mediapersons were holding dialogues with three sitting ministers at press lounge in Parliament House, some non-journalists entered the press gallery to cover the proceeding at which the journalist community strongly protested and asked the non-journalists to come out of the gallery. However, these non-journalists refused to leave the press gallery and scuffled with Hamid Mir.

Later, the mediapersons held meeting with the speaker and the matter was resolved. However, Law Minister Wasi Zafar had asked the speaker to ban the entry of Hamid Mir into the Parliament House. Meanwhile, talking to the mediapersons Chaudhry Nisar said that nobody could stop Hamid Mir from rendering his professional obligations and soon they would hold meeting with the speaker in this regard.

The speaker is neutral, and is not politisized, Wasi Zafar is PML(Q) **** poiltician, you are a conspiracy theorist, The speaker will obviously end up lifting the ban, but PML(Q) goonda has done his job for his master, its obvious who Mir will attack even more now.

Another case of censorship. I thought the PPP was the majority party, why is it taking orders from the minority party. We all know a time of censorship has began.

Are you referin to my post. May be I should of been more clearer. What I meant to say is that the PPP is a majority party and the PML-Q is the minority party. They have the speaker, they have the PM, they have the ministers, so why is it that they are taking orders from the minority party. The fact is they are using the PML-Q as an excuse, they really cant take a free press. Three months on and the censonship has started.
