12 young PTI members suspended ‘for questioning’ senior leadership
Friday, March 16, 2012
A meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Sindh Council was reduced, at the hands of the party’s workers, into a scene of commotion, uproar and disorder on Thursday.
In what could be a possible blow to the party’s image of being a representative of the country’s youth, the younger PTI activists present were not allowed to voice their opinion against the party’s “unprofessional” conduct.
The younger lot was frustrated by a statement of the party’s chief Imran Khan, in which he had said “you need to be a part of the system to change it”. The youngsters believe that such a statement would hurt the party’s image and would eventually decrease its electoral power.
Subsequently, the PTI’s senior leadership suspended the membership of over a dozen of its young activists for six months. These members have also been barred from taking part in any of the party’s administrative meetings.
Shahid Ali Rind, Nadeed Mustafa Bhutto, Deedar Bajarani, Hazar Khan Manglani, Sahat Ali Sarhani and Zareen Khan are among those facing six months of suspension. Those suspended were diehard PTI supporters, and were a core part of the party’s youth movement. The only justification they were given for their suspension was their outspoken characteristic.
The Sindh Council meeting, presided over by its President Naeem-ul-Haq, had been convened to review the party’s organisational set-up with special reference to the party’s membership drive which will start from March 25.
The meeting also focused on the two jalsas to be held in Hyderabad and Sukkur. The membership drive will be completed within three months, after which the party will start its campaign for the forthcoming general elections. The youths claim that, more than anything else, the elderly leadership had created a mess within the party.
