Time for Big Change, says Nawaz : Lahore

    Friday, March 6, 2009 at 8:21 pm

LAHORE: Former premier Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that the time has come for a “big change” in the country and nation would not have to wait anymore to see its dreams come true.

“You will not have to wait anymore as now I am seeing a ray of hope in this country. The change is knocking at the door and you people will not deprive of your rights anymore,” Nawaz tell a big mass rally held here Friday.

Nawaz severely criticized President Asif Ali Zardari over his policies and reiterated his charge that President orchestrated Supreme Court’s verdict that declared him and his brother Shehbaz, former chief minister Punjab, ineligible for public office.

Nawaz said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is not with its co-chairman in his decisions.

“Mr President! take at least your own party on board in your decisions that you are making against us. You betrayed us. We shook hands with you without any precondition and you cheated,” he said.

“We never demanded anything for ourselves. I always demanded the government something for this nation. I begged President for this nation’s prosperity. PML-N joined the federal cabinet on Zardari’s demand and you see what he did with you and with us.”

“He is saying that court’s verdict against us is according to laws. So what about court’s verdict against Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto? Will you say now that it was also as per laws?”

Nawaz took the oath from the participants of the rally to attend lawyer’s long march and sit-in in Islamabad.

“I am raising the flag of an uprising today. Come with me and support me to bring a change in this country. I will march to Islamabad along with you. Now the decisions will be held on roads,” Nawaz told a cheering crowd of thousands of party workers, chanting slogans in his favor and against President Zardari and hoisting party flags.

Nation's dreams to materialise soon; Nawaz

Updated at: 1840 PST, Friday, March 06, 2009

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has said the dream of a politically stable and economically viable Pakistan will soon come true.

Addressing a massive public rally here, Nawaz said the people of Pakistan have been demanding their rights for the last 60 years and soon they will emerge victorious.

He said the PML-N would fulfill the commitments it made to the people. He said soon a new era of hope and democracy would usher in the country. He said the PML-N would ensure the supremacy of law and constitution.

Nawaz said he would join the protest rally in future, PML-N chief also regretted he could not timely participate in the rally due to his engagements with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and ANP president Asfandyar Wali Khan.

He said President Asif Ali Zardari belittled his own words by not honoring his promises that were enshrined in the Charter of Democracy (CoD). Nawaz said the long march would play a decisive role once it reaches Islamabad.

‘I did not compromise over people’s interest. We joined the federal cabinet on Zardari’s insistence and I did not ask for any material benefit from Zardari before and even after the general elections”, he told a wavering crowd.

Terming the apex court decisions in former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his cases unjust, Nawaz said president Zardari is contravening the very manifesto of the PPP which was promised to the nation by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

"Big Change" , does he mean by another military coup? I feel really sorry for the situation in which Mr Nawaz is currently in. A most suitable desi proverb for him, "Dhobi ka k*** , na ghar ka na ghat ka".

Well whatever the change lets hope it is best for the nation and we can get rid of a government spending millions on travel that is cut from higher education spending a president that has lied openly in public himself admits that his word has no worth. Change though should be democratic and I am sure it will be because General Kayani himself completely believes in the democratic process.

Why is this guy bent on that court order, even after lahore?
He could have highlighted lahore issue to go to people. That would help him and people too to realize the gravity of the incident. Later may be he can go back to his own little politics.

And it is the politics that have been quoted by this article do you think publishing the fact that he prayed for the martyrs of the attack would sell??

Highlighting the attack does not mean praying for martyrs. It means asking government to show results and take responsibility.

Lol he literally asked the people to take out a few days and support him in his rallies.

The public also readily agreed. Jobless individuals.
    Jihad thanked this.

Well ofcourse only the jobless are those that are needy but I thought they would even have a shutter down strike but that means even businessmen are involved in the long march.

Shutter down strikes don't prove anything. A number of thugs go round the markets, and forcibly close them. Most people close them anyway, so the thugs don't have to bother.

Why do you think that people from Musharraf to Nawaz Sharif come to lahore and meet the likes of Gogi Butt and other pehlwans? They're not discussing the fishing forecasts, thats for sure.

True but to controll thugs you need to controll the police nowadays it is the thugs and the cops that are trying to get things opened whilst the movement is gaining steam.
