U must be talking about a low caliber MG, AK rounds on a SMG ?not happening.

At best u can consider th e 5.56 nato with guns like Tavor that contain the profile of an SMG, But nevertheless its still falls in the AR category.

XYON: Correct me on this , the 7.62x39 cartridge is out of service since long time ago & i don't find any SMG using such cartridge today.

MP-7 is what i would like the have though.

5 round magazine, never heard of an ak with a 5 rounder!!

$950+ what a rippoff, thats a standard ak47 with quad rail and side folder stock, you can buy it commercially for $500-$600, even an Arsenal SGL 21 which has a milled receiver is around the 800-900 bucks.

A 5 round magazine is also included in its accessories.

A 30 round magazine can be seen in the picture.

Issue is, PA classifies AK-47s/Type-56s as SMG, even though the international classification of SMG is something different.

If they want to replace Type-56s with something new in the same caliber, then AK-103 is a good option, provided Russia agrees and provides a local manufacturing plant (which i have doubts, but you never know).

    http://world.guns.ru/assault/rus/ak-103-e.html

Second option is to get a western design and re-chamber / redesign it to fire a 7.62*39mm cartridge. And my choice for that is the HK-416/417 design, its new and very well performing design and if we do go for this option, then with the time we can replace our assault rifle G-3 with this design and make 7.62*39mm as our standard cartridge of assault rifle and keep the 7.62*51mm cartridge for sniper purposes or long range engagement.

PA/POF plz get HK-416-417 license and change your weapon system for good.

HK-416 or as Taimi said, Ak-103.

BTW, why the 7.62? Whats the problem with a 5.56? 5.56 also gives alot of variety, a bigger pool to choose from.

MP-5 has totally gone bust since the last 3-4 years or so.

The G-36C is what is replacing the MP5 in service with Saudi Armed Forces.

Latest performance report in "Al-Barryah" Magazine states that testing have proved to be satisfactory and was given the go ahead to start the phasing in of this gun to replace the MP5.

Here is the difference between the G-36K top (Future main assault rifle of SAF replacing the G-3) and G-36C botttom.

What you think is wrong as MKEK has an MOU for licensed HK production.

Yeah uses same ammunition specs but in a lighter more compact platform. Now you see security and body guards dumping their old AKs and MP5s for the G-36C.

Whatis wrong with designing a new weapon - I keep saying this there must be some in POF who could design using parts from G-3 rifles saving money and development costs.
