depends. pakistan will have the capacity to produce/assemble 25-30 a/c per year. China double that.
in the end it depends on the final configuration of the JF-17 for PAF. PAF is supposed to receive its 150 a/c (ist order) within 3 years starting 2009.

From 2010 PAC is expecting to roll out 20-25 aircraft a year - all of which will be delivered to PAF; if we get deliveries from CAC as well, the PAF should have 150 JF-17s by 2015.

Eight countries express interest in JF-17

Eight countries express interest in JF-17

Ministry of Defence Production Secretary Shahid Siddiq Tirmizi informed journalists on Friday that as many as eight countries have shown interest in procuring newly launched JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft that was developed jointly by defence industries of Pakistan and China. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has been using eight JF-17 fighters to complete trials and technical evaluation of the newly launched jet, he said. He said that once agreements for sale were reached, 800 or even more JF-17 fighters could be produced.

The Secretary Defence Production along with Minister for Defence Production Abdul Qayyum Jatoi, State Minister for Defence Production Sardar Salim Hyder Khan, and Director-General Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) Maj General Muhammad Farooq were speaking at a press conference at fifth and concluding day of International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS-2008) here at Karachi Expo Centre.

The official said that through IDEAS, Pakistani defence products were showcased to prospective international buyers, who showed a keen interest in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), air defence systems, tank simulators, and anti-tank guided missiles developed by Pakistan. He said that the negotiations held at IDEAS could lead to more joint ventures of Pakistan for defence production with international defence industries and friendly countries like Turkey, France, and Germany. According to him, various participating delegations, prospective buyers, and exhibitors had reached some 11 broad understandings for defence production and procuring arms and related equipment.

Tirmizi said that from 2006 to 2008 Pakistan had exported defence products worth $400 million and this figure is bound to increase after IDEAS-2008.

Minister for Defence Production Qayyum Jatoi responded to a question about Pakistani capability to counter drone attacks by saying that Pakistan has the necessary defence capability but its top priority is to resolve the issue through diplomatic and political means. Regarding the strained bilateral ties between India and Pakistan, especially in the immediate aftermath of the Mumbai attacks, the minister said the government is hopeful that India would not attack Pakistan, but Pakistan was capable of countering the attack in such an eventuality.

Maj. Gen. Farooq, organizer of the event, said that prospective international defence manufacturers had already started showing their interest in participating in the sixth IDEAS scheduled to be held in 2010.

Looks like our indigineous UAV's will soon to be exported aswell. Things are looking really promising. MASHALLAH.
But air defense systems? do they mean MANPADS like Anza mk-II ? or indigenoeus SAM batteries? (it is believed that pakistan has a joint venture in developing SAMs)

IDEAS 2008 secures orders worth $40m

KARACHI: The 5th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2008 was a big success as private exhibitors have secured supply orders worth $40 million.

The event has also helped the country reach broad understanding with 11 serious buyers for the sale of arms and ammunition, said Director General Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) Maj Gen Mohammad Farooq in a press briefing here on Friday.

He along with Minister for Defence Production Abdul Qayyum Jatoi, State Minister for Defence Production Sardar Saleem Haider and Secretary Defence Production Lt Gen (rtd) Shahid Siddiq Tirmzey was responding to queries raised by journalists at the Expo Centre.

He said that overwhelming response was received from foreign exhibitors and delegates at the 5th IDEAS. This event has not only enhanced the image in the outside world but also nullified the security concerns about Pakistan. He also thanked Karachiites for showing hospitality to the exhibitors and visitors of IDEAS 2008. Secretary Defence Production said that 275 JF-17 thunder jet will be handed over to Pakistan Air Force after the completion of testing phase. “We have received so many queries for the purchase of these jets and more than 800 JF-17 will be exported to eight countries after meeting domestic requirements,” he said mentioning that once negotiations were materialized, the export of JF-17 could go beyond 800 units. These aircraft are produced under a technical collaboration with China and are also marketed under a joint venture with China, he said. app
    Neo thanked this.

If 800 JF-17 are exported will Pakistan receive compensation for 400 of them? How has this been worked out with China?

800 is a huge number, I would like to know the reasoning behind it as well. Hopefully it is made clear soon, unless someone has any information to share.

$40M for 400 planes? If that is the case they should put them on Autotrader.

JF-17s are not available off-the-shelf (like in a supermarket). they have to be manufactured and it takes time.

Actually, the figures mentioned by ACM are for peacetime purposes. If my memory serves right, he also stated in one of his interviews that if the situation changes the manufacturing rate will increase significantly at both CAC and PAC.
