Lightbulb LS-6 Precision Guided Glide Bomb!! we need it?

    LS-6 Precision Guided Glide Bomb

The LeiShi-6 (LS-6, LeiShi = “Thunder Stone”) precision guided glide bomb was first revealed in October 2006. The weapon comprises a conventional 500kg general purpose bomb and guidance and range-extension package developed by Luoyang Optoelectro Technology Development Centre (LOEC). The package is a GPS/INS-based guidance and targeting system, along with a pair of foldable wings, which, after bolting onto the bomb, transforms the weapon into a “stand-off” precision guided ammunition.

The weapon package allows conventional “dumb” bombs to be converted into smart weapons. The package provides both guidance and navigation to a target, in all-weather day/nigh conditions with great accuracy. The wings, which extend from a compact folded position upon deployment, give the bomb a great deal of manoeuvrability. Such a capability would allow the pilot to release the weapon from a standoff distance to protect both himself and the aircraft from surface-to-air weapon threats. When released from an altitude of 10,000m, the LS-6 could attack a point target 60km away at a speed of Mach 1 with an accuracy of better than 15m. When assisted by an auxiliary propulsion system, the weapon can reach a maximum range of 300km.

Chinese official says "about a dozen" launch tests of the LS-6 precision bomb kit have been carried out using a Shenyang J-8B as the test aircraft. The program began in 2003, with testing completed by 2006. A family of weapons is planned. It is not known whether the weapon has been equipped by the PLA. An obvious weakness of the weapon is its reliance on foreign satellite navigation systems such as the U.S. GPS and Russian GLONASS. However, China is expected to be able to deploy its own independent global satellite positioning and navigation system within the next ten years. Once fully deployed, the PLA would possess capabilities similar to the U.S. Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM).

    Specifications

    Launch weight: 540kg
    Length: 300mm
    Diameter: 377mm
    Wingspan: 2,740mm
    Warhead: 440kg HE
Range: 40km (released at an altitude of 8,000m); 60km (released at an altitude of 10,000m)
    Guidance: GPS + INS
    Accuracy: 15m CEP

i guss, we need them most! in the kind of warfare currntly , we are in"the war of terror"

^^^^^'batmannow' dear its really a good post, advising what we need indeed.

China has developed their own version of the American JDAM GPS smart bomb kit. The LS6 (Lei Shi 6) has wings, like the more recent JDAM kits, and can glide 40-60 kilometers, depending on the altitude it is dropped from. China began developing LS6 in 2003, and completed testing late last year. The wings fold back, until the bomb is dropped. JDAM is not particularly high tech, and well within Chinese technical capabilities. China is apparently preparing to offer the LS6 for sale, as well as using it themselves. They believe that the United States would not turn off GPS in wartime, given their own heavy dependence on JDAM and other GPS guided weapons. This will be a major selling point for their own LS6 (which, like JDAM, has a back up inertial guidance system). China also plans to have LS6 versions that can use the Russian GPS (GLONASS) and a regional Chinese GPS (that only covers eastern China.) This regional satellite navigation system may eventually be expanded and upgraded, to provide China with its own version of GPS. But in the meantime, the Chinese see GPS as a stable and useful resource for their own smart bombs.

Because China can manufacture military equipment much more cheaply than the United States, they can probably sell it for about half the American price (under $15,000 per kit.)

This new precision-guided glide bomb called LS-6 was first revealed in October 2006. The bomb appears to be in the 500kg class and guided by INS/GPS/GLONASS. It feartures a foldable wing module attached to the top of the unguided GP bomb section, and A guidance module with 4 movable fins attached to the end. This design clearly resembles that of American Longshot guidance and range-extension kit, which turns a low-cost dumb bomb into a smart standoff weapon against fixed targets. Its warhead weighs 440kg, length is 3m, diameter 377mm, wingspan 2,740mm, range 60km (dropped from 10,000m at 1 Mach) and CEP£15m. However, since GPS is controlled by the Unite States, this model may be aimed at the export market only. LS-6 has been tested onboard an CFTE J-8F.

Besides LS-6, the LS-500 is also usefull for our defence.

Ground crews were loading an LS-500J (K/YJG500) LGB underneath a PLAAF JH-7A fighter bomber. The LGB appears similar to Russian KAB-500L and its export version is called LT-2. It is the first such type of smart weapon to enter the service with PLAAF, even though Chinese have been testing LGBs (including LS-500J) using Q-5E/F attack aircraft for some years. LS-500J's weight is 564kg, length 3530mm, diameter 377mm, range>10km, CEP£6.5m, warhead 450kg. Its development was completed in 2003. The laser designator pod carried by JH-7A is thought to be the product of 613 Institute. The latest image indicated that LS-500J can also be carried by J-10.

thanks a lot, sir for support actully i, wont like to disscuss the i dea of allowing USA in any form to cross boder attacks, well thier argument about these attacks is very much clear! they think that pakistan doesnt have the capability to attack these terrorists precissesly?
here we are with L-6, which is perty much in our hands , we can ask USA to guide L-6 towards the marked target by PAKISTAN ARMY via its stalite link!
i hope it will work , successfully & also it can end the so called "predator Precision Guided strikes" inside pakistan, which is unacceptable for us, & having very bad impact on the genral masses & on our troops.
    thanks

Also they are producing a Chinese version of the Krasnopol laser guided artillary round which would be a good asset for Pakistan given the fact that support for troops in FATA does involve lots of towed artillary.
