Default R&D in Pakistan Defense Industry

    Hi!

R&D plays a very important role in bringing new ideas and innovations in any industry. Pakistan defense industry seriously lacks in the field of research & development . Anyone having an idea where Pakistan's defense industry stands in relation with research and innovation to make something new.

    Thanks

with the defence budget of just 4 billion dollars pakistan can not afford to spend money on R&D for innovative technology heck even indians are not matured enough to do that too..

Pakistan now boasts a powerful industrial, technological and research base developing and manufacturing for its armed forces and exporting a wide variety of small and large weapons ranging from modern fighter jets, battle tanks, armored vehicles, frigates and submarines to unmanned aerial vehicles and high tech firearms and personal grenade launchers for urban combat. Some of these items were on display at IDEAS 2008, the 5-day biennial arms show held in November 2008 in Karachi, Pakistan.

Pakistan has become an increasingly important player in the world arms industry, a global industry and business which manufactures and sells weapons and military technology and equipment. Arms production companies, also referred to as Defense Contractors, produce arms mainly for the armed forces of nation states. Products include guns, ammunition, missiles, military aircraft, military vehicles, ships, electronic Systems, and more. The arms industry also conducts significant research and development. Pakistan's major defense manufacturing companies are owned and operated by Pakistan's military. According to Business Monitor, Pakistan's defense industry contains over 20 major public sector units (PSUs) and over 100 private-sector firms. The majority of major weapons systems production and assembly is undertaken by the state-owned PSUs, while the private-sector supplies parts, components, bladed weapons and field equipment. Major PSUs include the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF), Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) and the Pakistan Machine Tool Factory. Multinational presence in Pakistan is limited, although joint production or engineering support in the development of certain armaments has recently occurred with companies such as DCN International and the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group.

Yes we are not matured enough but still we are doing it, We are already making F-INSAS which no country has it till now, and as it is in help with a prvt firm it will not take long, as Tata defense lab has already started it.

We have Works going on with KALI(Kilo Ampere Linear Injector), DURGA( Directionally Unrestricted Ray-Gun Array.).. WE ARE ALSO RESEARCHING, So never say that India is not researching in the field of defense unlike pakistan....

And moreover india has a budget of 30+billion US$ unlike pakistans 4 billion

The $4.5 billion spending on state of the art weapon systems is better than spending $3.2 billion on old useless air craft carriers from Soviet Union's naval junk yard and dud nuclear tests of Pokhran.

Oh yes, a jealous kid...lol... first let me make u understand

India did not get the desired yield on thermonuclear tests, and besides Pakistan has not conducted any thermonuclear tests... Indias Fusion tests were of complete success....

If you are talking about admiral Ghorshkhov then Let me also put a fact on that Its the second largest Aircraft carrier, which can carry about 30-40 aircrafts, and so its worth it, we spend ur budget on just an aircraft carrier...

little correction its not the second largest..it may be largest aircraft carrier India posses but its Size is not match for US carriers or Varyag ,the Chinese are modifying..but its suitable for Indian use

Pakistan is doing what is suitable for them and IMO they are doing smart job. What matters is you should capability to defend, that's the first goal and then comes self reliance. Both country has different situations and both are right in approach. India has different goal then Pakistan. Spending on R&D takes huge initial expenditure and bears fruit in long run irrespective of failure. I know this with a decade of experience in R&D, things looks to be going no where before success comes and changes everything, take a bet this decade will be of DRDO.
