lets be realistic . there is no money in the Pakistan s defense budget to build and A/C , much less support operations . money would be better spent getting a few more squadrons of fighters mates.

we said the same for the nuke sub that pak has no money,but PN deliberately leaked secret info of nuke sub being built(in 5-7yrs) after akula induction so who knows after induction of vikramadithya PN will again deliberately leak secret info abt AC being built in 3-4 yrs and by 2017 PN wil have an AC,nuke sub defended by,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,perrys and f-22ps

PN needs 2 squadrons of 4.5+ aircrafts not aircraft carrier, they can easily strike Mumbai and Banglore from airbase in Karachi so aircraft carrier is definitely not our need. Submarines, destroyers and aircrafts should be number one priority and small helicopter carrier after 2018.

In response to the initial question:
1) Pakistan has just started in naval shipbuilding with the largest ship thusfar being a single chinese designed F22P, after Chinese ToT and help. So, no, I don't think Pakistan is quite ready to start building (let alone designing) a carrier.
2) It is expensive: a carrier requires an adequate airwing, an adequate escort group and also long range reconnaissance assets. So, even if Pakistan could design and build it, it would be prohibitively expensive (none of the above are current in place.)

And that's just from a military-industrial point of view...

Banglore from where did you get Bangalore. it is not a coastal city. wheneva you are coming to attack our cities, do you think we will shut our ground radars and radar networks. 1234 posts with lack of minimum commonsense. can't you guys post one mature post. Aircraft carriers have become an integral part of a good navy. In fact, a navy is not considered good enough if it does not have aircraft carriers.

It costs about min 3.5 billion USD to build an aircraft carrier…

i think there is no need of a conflict(war) ...just buy or develop heavy n heavy expensive weapons......automatically u see the result.........

I believe Pakistan should start working on an AC, however not go gung ho in building it at any cost. they have the luxury of time and a slow progress will ensure good learning curve and technological knowledge. Obviously, friends help friends hence they should seek assistance from China in know how to save unnecessary expenses.

Like mine! That said, an AC is designed to project power. If the day comes when Pakistan feels the need to do so, then go for it. But consider the costs - at $3 billion U.S. + the cost of the jets it carries, you could instead buy 120+ front-line fighter aircraft.

As for why Pakistan doesn't build an aircraft carrier, its because we can't. We have neither the funds nor the industrial capability to build one and neither do we have a need for an aircraft carrier. Now was this too hard to understand?
