Perhaps you aren't too astute at distinguishing between subtle low blows and basic jargon...within the context of what is written, what is being said is that the Pakistani's have created these rumours of acquiring Type 214 and the Germans have nothing to do with it, and the idiot who has edited this section hand picked this article on purpose to make it seem as if indeed it is nothing but a rumour. Why should a tabloid paper from Germany have any say regarding this deal?

Type 039A Yuan Class Diesel-Electric Submarine

Pakistan Navy should also seek purchase of these class of submarines as they are second to none in technology as compared to U-214's

The Type 039A, codenamed Yuan class by the NATO, is a new type of non-nuclear submarine introduced by the PLA Navy in 2004. The submarine was built by Wuchang Shipyard in the inland Hubei Province. The Type 039A is reportedly China’s first submarine to be incorporated with an advanced air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, which enhances the submarine’s underwater performance and reduce its vulnerability to detention.

The Type 039A appears to be a mixture of Chinese indigenous designs and Russian influence, with four diving planes and a single large shaft. The teardrop shaped hull and large sail suggest heavy Kilo influence. A pair of foreplanes are positioned in the middle of the sail. The hull of the submarine is covered with rubber anti-sonar protection tiles to reduce the risk of detection.

It was reported that the Type 039A was equipped with an indigenously-developed AIP system, which allows the submarine to remain submerged on battery at slow speed for days or even weeks without having to surface to recharge batteries. The tactical flexibility, small size, and inherent stealth of such a system offers conventional diesel-electric submarines a remarkable increase in capability, making them dangerous threat to conventional and even nuclear submarines. It is believed that the AIP system used by the Type 039A may be a 100 kilowatt Stirling-cycle heat engines with external combustion design, developed by the 717 Institute of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC).

Just recieved the following news in Brasstack newsletter. Can someone confirm this news.

Pakistan has purchased three German Subs at a cost of $1 Billion. This will go a long way in helping the Navy achieve self-reliance. The key strategy for the Pakistan Navy is diversification and with the German Subs this will be achieved by Pakistan. The German subs are 100% German so there is minimal chance of sanctions. One of the most advanced submarines in the world is the German Type 214 class. Equipped with a fuel cell propulsion system, the Type 214 submarines are the first of only two fuel cell propulsion system equipped submarines, the other being the Russian Lada class submarine.

At leat one and maybe more of the 214s will be built at the Karachi Shipyard. The Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KSEW) has built ships in the past. In the 80s is built ships for China. The Hetian was one of them. The KSEW is undertaking shipbuilding projects for the Pakistan Navy, Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Maritime Security Agency (MSA) and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC). With the new upgrades planned for the KSEW with Chinese help it it going to be geared to get export orders from overseas countries. This would significantly contribute towards earning foreign exchange for Pakistan.
