Default Pakistan Made Submarine, Agosta 90B, Attracted Some Buyers

Pakistan Made Submarine, Agosta 90B, Attracted Some Buyers

Pakistan is on the verge of reaching a preliminary agreement for the supply of three Agosta 90B submarines to Malaysia, a deal that could earn in excess of US$500 million for the country’s cash-strapped defence industry.

“We expect to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysians in the very near future,” a senior Pakistan Navy officer told The Nation at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX).

Pakistan continues to promote its export potential. Most recently, Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah stated that the navies of United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Nigeria have shown interest in Pakistani-built submarines. Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have also been mentioned.

The deal died, apparently the original contract with DCN led to a misunderstanding between Pakistan and DCN whether Pakistan could produce these subs for export and Malaysia ordered scorpene

Yes they do, here's an example Turkey is manufacturing the F-16 and in the near future the F-35, and countries that asks Turkish Aerospace Industries to procure them F-16, what ever the deal for those fighters are a small portion of that goes to Royalty to Lockheed Martin..

Other Countries might be different, they want more or they want less.. But there is definitely a Royalty to the origin of the country which they gave ToT to other states..

Wasn't scorpene chosen way long before 2008? Maybe Malaysia is looking for another type of submarine?

    Growler

If I'm not mistaken, the Malaysian started out wanting the 90B and for whatever reason ended up ordering Scorpene.

Can any country buy those licensed productions without the consent of country of origin? Like Pakistan asking for those F-16 and the deal would be between Pakistan and Turkey OR would Turks need approve from Lockheed first?

Can somebody tell me why aren't we producing Augusta90B for our requirement anymore? Are we not in need of Augusta Subs? We were looking for German Subs desperately or thinking to go for French Subs again. When we have capacity to produce them for our use, why don't we make them?

We assemble sections of the boat - it's propulsion, AIP and sensor suite are all imports -- in other words, it would cost us as much if not more to assemble (not manufacture) than the German subs.

It's clear that we do not have the technical infrastruture to absorb the technologies and manufacturing know how.

This is why we have been arguing for a variety of Manufacturing based on building sub sections -- a series of shops that each specializes in a one or two core functions/sections.

sir growler im not sure what depth does gulf has but im sure it does not have desired depth for any submarine to hide and it has been told me by a very high offical of navy in 2005 year now he is in very higer rank in navy i forgot his rank but he is very near to admiral of UAE navy and see no arab country ever desired to buy submarines they have cash to buy but they never because they know that subarines would not be that effective saudi arabia,UAE, bahrain kuwait etc what im saying it doesent mean that submarine cannot have any role or subs are duds in arabian sea still subs are very effective on any depth they can have kill over enemy in arabian sea but they have greater ratio of getting killed in arabian sea than in any other sea remeber submarine role is kill and hide and than again kill and hide so if sub cannot hide it will be prey of enemy ships, anti sub aircraft and helicopter so why keep sub if sub kills one ship after short space of time it will be sinked so i think sub are not that effective in gulf see israel only have folphin which is not very good as french and german subs than why israel keep them because israel also jave probleums with countries in africa egypt, libya, morroco etc see why israel do not buy any USA made sub because they dont have greater threat from africa but they have small threat so they did not need subs from usa which are heavy duty they dave their money and they have greater threat from arabian countries where subs are not effective israel buyed dolphin to just defend its naval water dolphin role is not to go in enemy waters and attack it is just make safe israeli waters

I believe the persian gulf is shallow water and not ideal for submarines.

well, sadly enough, it is a gone deal. there was a possibility for ON to earn some good dollars but the malaysian navy opted for Scorpean Subs. that deal is underway now!
for PN not building more agostas for itself, the idea seem to be to wait for the U214 now! these german boats wil also be made at home (two of them) and thus will add to our knowledge of Submarine Building. this knowledge may well see PN building a new class sub mixing up some technological highs of both the systems,,
for time being more agostas do not seem to be a possibility as they may well cost same as the much more advanced U214 so if we do need more Subs PN may opt for more U214z in future!

    regards!
