PARACHINAR: A government administrator says Pakistani fighter jets have bombed suspected militant hideouts in a northwestern region near the Afghan border, killing at least 10 alleged insurgents.

Javed Khan says the airstrikes Friday hit two areas of the Kurram tribal region based on intelligence reports about the presence of militants.

Pakistan’s army has waged multiple offensives in various parts of Pakistan’s lawless tribal belt in order to force out al-Qaida and Pakistani Taliban fighters.

Default Military Operation leaves 25 terrorists dead, 4 soldiers martyred.

    June 25, 2011. Saturday.

Pakistan's security forces backed by warplanes attacked militants' hideouts in Kurram tribal region of northwestern Pakistan early Saturday, a Press TV correspondent reported.

At least four hiding places were destroyed in the air attack, the report added.

Pakistan's army has waged multiple offensives in various parts of the tribal belt to force out the Taliban militants.

Meanwhile, armed clashes between two rival militant groups in Upper Orakzai area of Saifud Darra on the same day left 15 dead and eight others injured.

The militants belonged to groups of Hafiz Saeed alias Mullah Toofan, the chief of the Tehrik-i-Taliban in Kurram, and Maulvi Nabi, a militant leader who had been removed from the Taliban movement.

The gunfire is still underway with both sides using heavy weaponry.

Pakistan launched a major operation in Orakzai in March last year after militants fled a sweeping offensive in the nearby tribal district of South Waziristan.

Default Pakistan army raids kill 40 militants.

    June 30, 2011. Thursday.

Pakistan army says its troops have killed at least 40 pro-Taliban militants in a series of raids near the troubled border with Afghanistan over the past three days.

A military commander said on Thursday that Pakistani forces, aided by jets and helicopter gunships, carried out raids on suspected militant hideouts in Mohmand Agency.

"An operation was launched three days ago with the support of army aviation aircraft, helicopters and fighter jets. We killed at least 40 militants," AFP quoted Brigadier Aftab Ahmad as saying.

However, it was not immediately clear how the Pakistani security forces reached the body count of 40.

The Pakistani army has launched several operations in the troubled northwest in a bid to flush out militants from Pakistan's tribal zone.

Despite an offensive by the Pakistani government against pro-Taliban militants, they have spread their influence in various regions, killing hundreds of people and security forces.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant bomb attacks in Pakistan.

PAKISTAN LAUNCHES OPERATION IN KHURRAM AGENCY

PARACHINAR: A military offensive has been launched against militants in central tehsil of Kurram Agency and families have started fleeing the conflict zone, sources said.

A senior official in Peshawar confirmed that a ‘full-fledged operation’ had been launched in the valley on Sunday.

Two weeks ago, the government had notified 80 square kilometres of the area in central Kurram as conflict zone.

“I have no specific details, but operation has started in the mountainous area,” the official said.

Central Kurram is adjacent to Tora Bora, reportedly the stronghold of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Militants having lost their positions in Waziristan and other parts of Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have set up their sanctuaries in Central Kurram.

The sources said that troops had been dropped from helicopters in Manato and Zaimukhet and army and paramilitary forces, backed by air force, were conducting a joint operation in the area.

They said that thousands of troops were taking part in the operation.

The military offensive has triggered displacement as large numbers of families have started moving to lower part of the tehsil where a relief camp has been set up at Durrani area.

The Fata Disaster Management Authority has set up two registration centres where 500 displaced families have enrolled
    themselves so far.

According to official estimates, over 4,000 families are likely to flee their homes because of the military operation.

    ANTIBODY and 53fd thanked this.

Default Six militants killed in Khurram.

    July 06, 2011. Wednesday.

A military offensive was launched against militants in the central tehsil of the tribal region on Sunday

PARACHINAR: Six militants were killed during a clash with security forces in the Kurram tribal region on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

The militants were killed in the tribal region’s Marghan area.

A military offensive was launched against militants in the central tehsil of the tribal region on Sunday and families had started fleeing the conflict zone.

At least 400 families in central Kurram, where the operation is focused, managed to leave the area and registered with a government-run camp in lower Kurram, a government official said.

The official had estimated that thousands of families might have left the region, but many of them opted to stay with relatives rather than go to the camp.
