Default Pakistan of 60's. A model for 3rd world countries

If Pakistan becomes a nation as capable as France or Germany rather than something like US it can give a serious diplomatic leverage to its 170 million people.

And India of yore was called the Golden Bord - Sone Ki Chidiya.

Point is, there's no point in dwelling on the past.

Those may have been the good old days of the past but I want it better than that. How about a Pakistan with Sixth largest Population to become the Sixth largest economy of the World.

Wont happen anytime soon, in our life times or our children's life times. Pakistan's GDP is $210 billion which is pathetic for a country it's size.

Son, Pakistan has everything but one thing is missing since its birth - Leadership.

If we can overcome this deficiency we will be unstopable.

its not about leadership. its about maintaining a steady and stable governece for a very long time to see the fruits. india had bad leaders all the time but we stick to our economic and political fundamentals and now the quality of indian leadership and effectiveness is improving rapidly and indians are quite satisfied with the progress the country is making in every field. how long the imran khan democracy survive??? will he be shot dead before coming to power?? who knowss?

in those days pakistan had a good standard of living because they were a colonial power in effect. W.Pak used to consume resource and manpower of E.Pak. Also during partition, they got a very good deal because less than 10% of undivided Indian population occupied 25% of land area of undivided india. So naturally the qualty of life was better.
then when the colonial power was ousted from E Pak, Pak had no free lunches and had to depend on their own people and leadership and as we all know today how bad that has been. Thus there has been a slow deterioration of Pak. Also not to forget among, India, Pak and BD rate of population growth has been highest in Pakistan but they have failed to develop their HR to anything meaningful in a peaceful way. QED

That is pretty much spot on.

Look at the much more rapid economic growth of Bangladesh since after partition and the slowing down of economic growth in Pakistan since after partition.

Bangladesh after Partition was able to use it's own resources for development and Pakistan no longer had any free lunches from Bangladesh any more.

    I disagree.
Pakistan used US aid and put it into it's economy, similar to what Korea did in the 60s and 70s.
The problem with Pakistan was that US was not constant and when it stopped our economy struggled. Add to that, the utter failure of our leaders and we are where we are.

If you look at our economy over the last 40 years, it has had the highest growth rates when we were under dictatorship and getting aid from America. During democracy we didn't get aid and our growth rate plummeted.
