Default Will 2012 be the end of Lollywood?

KARACHI: This year is considered the end of Lollywood because this year’s budget did not allocate funds to the Pakistan film industry.

According to media sources, only two to three Lahore-based movies are scheduled to be released this Eid as film-makers have moved from Lahore, leaving the once busy studios silent and empty.

Chaudhary Kamran, the producer of last year’s “Bhai Log” has been working since long to restore the existing producers’ association.

Kamran asked, “Why would investors want to make a film which is unable to recover (investments)?” He further added that although his movie, which was released on Eid was a big success but still unable to recover the investment.

Actor Kanwal who is effectively working with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to support the entertainment industry said that the government’s indifference is the main reason behind the collapse of Lollywood.

She further added that once Lahore was considered as an identity of film productions, but now it is losing its identity.

On the other hand, renowned director Javed Sheikh is optimistic about the production of films.

He said that 2013 will be a comeback year because Lollywood is scheduled to release eight highly budgeted movies including “Waar” and “Zinda Bhaag” and movies by Humayun Saeed, Shoaib Mansoor and Jami.

He further pointed out that Rawalpindi, which was considered a dormant market for films, has turned into one worth Rs20 million.

Lollywood has produced blockbuster movies like “Khuda Ke Liye” and “Bol”, so we can still hope for the revival of the film industry in Pakistan.

Should indian file industry need to help pakistan file industry? i don't think so because if you think like businessman Pakistani's people are also viewer of indian files. So why to help pakistan film industry because they are our one of the competitor so let them die.

+ sorry if someone do not like my language and comment but as a indian i always see indian interest in any field.

If people would have appreciated good work in the past, Lollywood would have been as popular in Pakistan as Bollywood is in India. Then cultural invasion would have been from your side too.

Its Pakistan's loss. Entertainment media plays and important role in projecting country's image to entire world and influencing local people.

A very known person (I think it was Nelson Mandela) once said that India has its own film industry and people are fan of it, revere it where as there is no such thing in it.

Hollywood has already started to establish in India. In same way Bollywood has established in Afghanistan and Pakistan(to some extent obviously)

The movies played important part in war time in Europe where patriotic movies where promoted.(Don't say you don't need movies to be patriotic)

Kindly elaborate which south asian countries' actors are working in India. Also explain is there any major entertainment group in South Asia which make films?

To be different, you don't have to be always negative or swim against the tide, every time.

There are so many different nationals working in an Indian company called Infosys. Does that mean that infosys is not an Indian company??

If corporate entities like geo, ARY stay in lollywood it will become huge success.... In the past lollywood has been run by tharki directors and financers who wants to see Saima and Nargis dancing in rain.... nothing more...

In recent years Geo invested in lollywood and won international awards.... I hope they'll keep investing in lollywood and other corporate entities will follow them....
