Default Doctor suspended for transporting cow in ambulance

This news has been spreading across the global media but not across the local media (except Dawn). BBC carried it on their front page and newspapers from Australia to Canada covered this news. While some would like to point it that it is somehow the "western" media trying to portray a "bad image", I feel that these are somehow non issue in Pakistan but considered to be unacceptable and strange for other countries who expect doctors to be very ethically and morally sound.

Pakistani doctor suspended for putting cow in ambulance - BBC

A Pakistani doctor has been suspended for using an ambulance to carry home a cow he had bought at a local market, health authorities say.

The doctor had taken the ambulance from a rural health centre near the eastern city of Gujrat, in Punjab province.

He was intercepted by police while driving home from the cattle market.

A photo in the Sunday edition of Pakistan's Dawn newspaper showed a large spotted cow tied with a rope to a bar in the back of an ambulance.

Muneer Ahmad, an official at the provincial health department, said he had been "shocked" by the doctor's behaviour.

He said he had suspended the doctor on the request of the police and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

GUJRAT: A doctor of a rural health centre was suspended from service for using an ambulance to fetch an animal from the cattle market here on Saturday at Tanda, some 30km from here.

Dr Munir of Tanda Rural Health Centre took the official ambulance to Kunjah cattle market, some 10km away from Gujrat, to purchase a calf. The Lorry Adda police stopped the ambulance and found a calf which the doctor was taking to Tanda. Later, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sardar Akram Javed asked the health department for suspension of Dr Munir.

Talking to this correspondent, Executive District Officer of Health Dr Muneer Ahmed said he had ordered an inquiry into the matter and suspended Dr Munir on the directive of the DCO.

    @ topic

The state of doctors in my city is very bad. They charge 500 - 700 rupees for meeting with one patient in decent hospitals and everytime you see the doctor you have to pay another 500-700 rupees. The tests they do are really funny. My dad had to undergo for some tests and i saw his reports 1st day it was bad, second day it was even worse and the third day the reports showed my dad is completely fine and next day again it was showing some extremely bad again

So you can expect these cow in ambulance like incidents anyday

Used to happen a lot with army generals and army trucks during musharraf's tenure. Has reduced considerably under Kayani.
Although this doctor could have avoided all the problems if he had stuck a drip on the cow and used the "part time" veterinarian excuse.
