Pakistani Minister Calls for Obama to Assume Leadership of Muslim World as “Mullah Obama”

Pakistan’s Minister of State for Industries Ayatullah Durrani is doing his part to confuse people over the false rumor that Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Eid-al Fitr, one of the holiest days on the Islamic year, is inconveniently falling on September 11 this year.

Durrani, noting a lack of a singular leader for Muslims, like Catholics have in a pope, is urging Obama to step forward and take the mantle of leadership.

“The coming Eid would expectedly be observed on 9/11, this a golden opportunity for President Obama to offer Eid prayers at Ground Zero and become Amir-ul-Momineen or Caliph of Muslims. In this way, all the problems of Muslim World would be solved,” Durrani said.

For a man as educated as Durrani is — he has a doctorate in physics — to act this ignorantly is simply frightening.

Amidst his impressive scientific background, Durrani was also a member of an Islamic Ideology Council in the 1990’s. He should know that a leader of Muslims should be a Muslim. Suddenly, all the Americans who appear confused about Obama’s faith do not look so ignorant and misguided.

“The time is approaching fast. Barack Hussein Obama must act now. This is a golden opportunity, Muslims badly need it,” explained Durrani. Durrani suggested that Obama should take the title of “Mullah Barack Hussein Obama” or “Allama Obama.”

This is like pitch-laden kindling for birthers and other conspiracy followers’ bonfire. Orly Taitz quickly put it on her website. Others are seeing it as the proof that Obama is a Muslim after all.

All this proves is that ignorance is cross-cultural.
