Default Mahathir urges Muslims to boycott Dutch products

Malaysia's Mahathir urges Muslims to boycott Dutch products

The Associated Press
Sunday, March 30, 2008
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Former Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad urged the world's 1.3 billion Muslims to boycott Dutch products following the release of an anti-Islam movie by a maverick anti-immigrant lawmaker, a news report said Sunday.

His government, meanwhile, joined the international community in strongly condemning the 15-minute film, calling it disrespectful and insensitive.

"If Muslims unite, it will be easy to take action," Mahathir was quoted as saying by the Malay-language Utusan Malaysia. "If we boycott Dutch products, they will have to close down their businesses."

His office could not immediately be reached for comment.

Geert Wilders' movie, titled "Fitna," or "ordeal" in Arabic, was posted online Thursday but removed from the site, LiveLeak.com, one day later. It has since been widely dispersed on other file-sharing sites.

The film has sparked noisy street protests in many Islamic nations — but not in Malaysia, where 60 percent of the country's 27 million people are ethnic Malay Muslims.

Foreign Minister Rais Yatim said in a statement late Saturday that Wilders "must bear full responsibility over the release of the movie and the consequences of his action."

"Portraying Islam as a religion advocating extremism is not only misleading and erroneous, but also blatant disregard and utter disrespect for Islam and the sensitiveness of the Muslim world," he said.

Hi,

Now that is the right approach---hurt them where it hurts the most---in their pocket book---there was a news yesterday that dutch busninessmen are ready to sue the maker of the film/documentary, if they suffer financial loss due to the boycott. That is the way to go.

Maybe, pakistanis should take a lesson from malaysia. Just tell the dutch with a smile on your face---pople we love you, but we ain't buying any of your stuff no more---thankyou---see ya later-alligator.

Guess who is on top of the list---SHELL gas company---it is as dutch as you can get---everyone here can boycott shell atleast.

Exactly, it as as simple and described beautifully by MK.
With protests we only harm our self or fellow muslims!
West laugh at it when they read people died in protests sparked by them.
Actually, the learned that we are so stupid and now they do it again and again.
There is not only one anti-Muslim lunatic in the western world there are many more but all of them never let you feel and kill you in their own states with there votes and policies.
Why Pakistanis cannot act wisely and reply in tit for tat.
I will not protest in streets but I will not buy dutch product no Shell in my life again.
Shell go to Hell.
Very soon sea will climb there artificial walls and sink them deep.
Any more dutch products?

I second that, I'll boycot Dutch products as far as I can for a month, even if it affects my pocket by buying more expensive (imported) groceries from Pakistani, Turkish or Egyptian shops.

That's the spirit and effective approach. Don't worry no food or wear items make any deficit on pockets.
It does not make any difference if one buy one levis for 100USD or non-Levis for for 50USD you only need to buy once a year.
Use bicycle once a week it will compensate every thing.
Oh I missed the whole part here: You live in (w)Hol land! OH, you may need to consult Mullah.

wont that be really hard for you, since you live in the Netherlands? nearly everything around you will be Dutch products. clothes, cars, food, household appliances etc will all be dutch pproducts. how are you going to live a comforatble life if you boycott all that?

You can take an Indian out of India but you cant take India out of an Indian.

Can somebody name Dutch products?

No one really cares about them.

But i must say, the Dutch government has seriously condemned anti-Islamic videos.

Come forward as servants of Islam, organise the people economically, socially, educationally and politically and I am sure that you will be a power that will be accepted by everybody.

Haven't the Dutch taken some action against the anti Islam stuff in Netherlands?

Wasn't it the Danes who couldn't care less?

Or have I mixed it up?
