Brothers from my country sometimes u are being too naive, Russians build everything from fighterjets, tanks, apc's, aircraft carriers, nukes, heli's, submarines they are alternative to US hardware.. and you are worrying about Cobra tech!!

Would you please show me a similar class vehicles designed by Russia with a V Shape body to protect the soldiers from IED-Mine explosions with a satisfactory AP munition protection level in a 5 tonnes body ? Personelly, I don't worry about stealing Cobra technologies but giving satisfactory reasons under lights of some informations to clarify the meaning of thread's pictures I have posted...

Brother i know, but it is Russia for Gods sake!! And if this technology is so incredible, then they shouldt export it to Georgia in the first place.

No, All in all, It is just a light armoured vehicle and I don't think the Tech. of it is so important but Even If It was important, You know Money opens all gates. There are tens of countries manufacturing such vehicles but Less is able to export a proven system to more than 10 different countries and Less have been copied by others. Even If It is easy to develop for a country like Russia, That doesn't prevent Russia to copy some special design specifications of Cobra to develop/copy their own. It is seen with pictures that They are firing some bullets on Cobra to test the protection performance of it...

It is ofcourse sad, that the Russians can have a look into this platform, because i am sure our engineers spend lots of energy, and time for research development!! Russians now get it for free!!!

Cabatli after seeing the Russians, inspecting this Cobra. My trust in Turkish systems has been stronger, because if it wasnt something good, they would trow it to garbage and not examine it.

Indeed bro... At present, Cobra 2.5 has been presentated as well. Turkey is climbing the ladders with a high speed. The day national engines integrated into those vehicles and satisfactory national contributions to be increased higher than %90's for an avarage land system, The Turkey would be more independant and self reliant in every field. That would mean more courage, powerful economy and strong foreign policies for Turkish nation...

This is amazing, i want to congrat otocar engineers.

First at the picture with markings numbered by 23 to 27:

Considering the impact markings(like smoke marks near the impact points.) i am nearly sure those are high caliber and heavy bullets. Those bulets probably have high kinetic energy and they couldnt penetate the vehicle.

At the left rear of vehicle those smoke marks indicates most of the kinetic energy of bullets is refracted. Those smokey marks tell us particles from hot outer surface of bullet is seperated from bullet itself. This happens when bullet loses most of its kinetic energy and speed. This means armor and its geometry is very durable agains bullets used here.

About explotion or what else happened there, vehicle inside is in very good shape. I think soldiers survied this incident. Doors seems opened without any problem, this is good. You dont want to be trapped in a highly damaged vehicle in combat area.

Glass surface is broken but it seems interior surface is ok, may be we can say bullet did not penetrate the glass. (Those windows are designed to be broken from outside to absorb bullet energy so it can not penetrate.)

Considering this is not a heavy armored combat vehicle, my opinion cobra did its job as it would.
It endured high caliber bullets, explosion did not affect interior structure, escape conditions are present.

    Good work otocar.

By the way; wheels are ok. This vehicle can be repaired in a short time and could be usable again.

In the 2008 war only 2 Cobra's were destroyed and they were both by heavy weapons fire & not by same class of vehicle fire, a few were captured by Russian forces due to abandonment by retreating Georgian military forces. The first thing the Russians did were to drag the two destroyed Cobra's and the ones that they captured back to their tank yards for disassemble in order to find out why the Cobra was able to stand up to repeated weapons fire & not get destroyed.

While the Russians have deadly military assets including the most advanced AA systems which nobody doubts Russia has until recently since the end of the cold war started to fall behind in R&D with regards to their military due to continued and repetitive defense budget cutdowns. The 2010 Russian annual military parades were intended to show the country and the world that Russia was back in the game of developing and advancing military hardware in all fields as many new weapons were unveiled officially to the public for the first time and the Soviet era classics such as the older model BTRs currently in use (which are vulnerable to even hand held fire) are expected to be retired from service in the coming decade.

However we must all remember that the Cobras that Georgia was using was most likely an export version & would not contain any technology that cannot be developed by a nation such as Russia if they truly wanted to, know that Russia to boost their defense industry have been purchasing hardware with TOT, an example would be France who Russia has purchased 4 Mistral class LHDs from with full TOT paying almost double for what the Mistrals would have cost without the TOT.

Besides, Russia do not have anything comparable with Cobra series armoured vehicles. This does not mean Russia can not develop a similar one but At least, We can say that They need knowhow, technology like that.
