Who will deliver the components for the seismic activities ? And does the bidder who won it have any experience in that field ?

Turkey will produce its own seismic ship to search for natural gas and petroleum, Energy Minister Taner Yıldız has said. A dealwas signed between the General Directorate of Mineral Research Exploration (MTA), the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries and the contractor that will build the ship.

The ship will be built at the Tuzla shipyard in northwestern Turkey with the support of local industry, said Yıldız. The ship will be equipped with the latest technology and will be used for two-dimensional and three-dimensional seismic exploration.

“A growing and developing Turkey cannot have a stagnant energy sector. All areas of Turkey are growing, therefore we will conduct our exploration activities with the latest technology,” Yıldız said at a ceremony organized by the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries.

According to Yılıdız, the ship will cost roughly 100 million euros and will be delivered to the MTA in 2014. The ship will be financed by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry with mediation from the Undersecretariat of the Defense Industries as it is expert in shipbuilding commissions.

When asked by reporters at the ceremony what the name of the ship would be, Yıldız said the ship currently does not have a name, but that Turkey’s prime minister and president would provide their input at the ship’s inauguration ceremony.

The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) had also already conducted research for a seismic ship to search for petroleum and natural gas, and Yıldız said that these efforts would also be taken into account.

I am very curious to know how this ship is going to be equipped with the latest technology when Turkeys only seismic ship was the old one sent to Northern Cyprus. Wherre do they have this "latest" technology hidden. From what sleeve are they going to pull it out.

Does any of the muslim countries have seismic ship for this kind of exploration, and are we getting the know-how from them ?

Or do they mean, "latest" technology we(turkeys industry) can provide?

The best guess I can come up with is, that some of the big oil companies are cooperating with turkey on this.

Aselsan as always !!! Aselsan has already been working on seismic vessel projects. Underwater technologies are not a new working area for Aselsan engineers...

Thanks for the information, but can you provide us with an example of the equipment Aselsan has developed to use in seismic activities, and what areas it's been used and for how long.

I know that we're still "young" in the defense industry on some areas, but I think with regard to seismic exploration we need experienced crew, a lot of experienced people to manage these equipment. and of course a seismic exploration ship with proven technology to conduct comparable research. So we know if the equipment Aselsan has developed is working as intented.

If I find the Aselsan proposal regarding the devices to be mounted on ship, I will share.

Thank you very much. Also another thing I'd like to ask. With regard to indiginious technology in many of the products, can we say that we're 100% independant of foreign parts ?

If you pay attention to the naval ships Istanbul shipyard won the Turkish Navy tenders, All of them share almost same design but modified in accordance with costumer's requirements...

    Submarine Resque Mother Ship

    Resque and Towing ship

    and now Seismic ship

That's the off-shore vessel produced by Istanbul shipyard for Norway and launched into sea in recent months..

But Cabatli, what I'm thinking of and what I've been reminded of is that "indiginous" can mean everything from "5% of it is Turkish made and the remaining 95% is imported equipment", what I am interested in knowing is. How much of this and other indiginous projects are turkish.

I know you can't make everything 100% from the start, but I would like to know how much of the projects we're "thumbing" our chest for is turkish made.

So if this ship is for example 75% turkish made and remaining 25% is imported equipment, then I would like to see that the next bloody ship we're making is more than 75% turkish made.

i hope you understand what I am trying to say.
