ANKARA — Turkey has launched a project to produce an advanced naval submarine.
Turkey's Defense Ministry and Navy have been working with Germany in the coproduction of four electric-diesel submarines. The coproduction effort has taken place with Germany's ThyssenKrupp for the Type 214 submarine.

"This is a huge project that will make Turkey into a submarine manufacturer," an official said.

The submarine project was expected to cost about $2.5 billion. Officials said the first platform could be delivered to the Navy in 2015.

The Navy has been building three of the submarines in Turkey. Officials said Turkey would also help design electronic subsystems for the underwater platforms.

Turkey has been engaged in several major naval projects. One called for the assembly of up to 11 small frigates in a project estimated at $2 billion

Yep 6 Type 214s. To replace our 6 Type 209/1200s. AIP stuff will be built and shipped in kits to Turkey(Since that is top secret) and we will be doing our own C4I,electronic and weapons systems. Work share will be more then 80% for the Turkish side of the deal which will be great.

I think we already spend a huge amount on Subs. And those subs are quite good. The latest also had AIP. Now going for everything which comes new is not a good strategy.

U-214,Marlyn are main competetors PN is also looking for chinese subs... Few reports even suggested tht PN was interested in leasing chinese nuclear sub..

This specific deal i believe turkey is not looking to export on. Rather get knowledge on sub building and replace our older subs.

What for? Even Russia itself does not need these Typhoons anymore. 214 is ideal sub for country like Turkey.
